Blackberry Cocktail or Mocktail

I love blackberries but don’t like the seeds. I also love cocktails so this was a great idea to use my blackberries to make a syrup. It’s super easy. Just add 2 cups water and 2 cups sugar to a saucepan. Heat on medium and stir just till sugar incorporates. Add the blackberries and cover. Steep for 10-15 minutes. Take off heat and let sit for 10 more minutes. Strain into a bowl while smashing berries to get all the juice out. The syrup will be good for up to 2 weeks in the refrig.

On to the cocktail!

2oz spirit of choice
3/4oz blackberry syrup
3/4oz fresh lemon juice

Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a glass with ice. Top with a bit of club if you like or serve it as is.
This recipe will work with gin, vodka, or bourbon.
If you want to use tequila or rum, I would sub lime juice for lemon. It also works perfectly with non-alcoholic products like Bare, Ritual, Seedlip. An easy mocktail is to just add the syrup and lemon to ginger ale, club soda, or tonic.

Cheers!
