How Cool is This?


Thanks to the Local Food Promotion Program Grant from the USDA, we got this amazing new walk-in cooler, and thanks to the help of a lot of our Fair Shares members, we were able to afford the buildout to put the walk-in behind our building with access from inside. This fancy new walk-in even has a separate room with its own thermostat for keeping the tomatoes at juuust the right temperature. Maybe we'll name this cooler Goldilocks.

After spending so many years with a cooler that was way too small, our work efficiency will increase tremendously, while creating an inverse correlation with our frustration level. Not only will this additional cooler space improve our efficiency and our sunny outlook, it will help us keep the produce colder and happier, too. This in turn should keep it fresher longer, thereby making our members happier. It's a win win win!

Tip: How to Prep Asparagus

When you get asparagus in your CSA, it's going to be so much fresher and more tender than the often tough and woody stalks you'll find in the grocery store. The "proper" technique for removing the tough end is to hold the end and the lower part of the stalk and bend until it snaps.Read more
