We had a less than stellar turnout at this year’s Potluck Picnic, but the few of us who attended enjoyed fun and games and food (and beer).
Special thanks to Fair Shares member Matt Neuwirth for providing fun and games for the kids and adults alike, and to Fair Shares involunteer Stephen Hale for doing the thankless job of standing over a hot grill in the relentless sun on a 90 degree day to cook our burgers and hotdogs–and also to member Scott Pohlman who took a turn to give Stephen a break.
We ate delicious appetizers, salads, and sweets prepared with lots of Fair Shares foods, and happily, we seemed to have a strong showing of desserts! We took a vote on favorite dishes and gave away tee shirts from Marcoot and Buttonwood as prizes.
Matt provided a few games for the kiddos, including printouts for Treasure Hunt Bingo, as well as name tag stickers with food items on them. All attendees got a sticker on their back so we could mingle through the crowd asking yes or no questions to guess who we were. Among the attendees were Tofu Jerky, Mostarda, Pac Choi, Chevre, Quark, Chorizo, Spinach, Hamburger, Lettuce, Berkshire bacon, Pork Jowl, Arugula, Sunchokes, Hummus, Garlic scapes, Pesto, Yogurt, Granola, Parsnips, and Carrots. There were a few others whose names I don’t recall right now, but as you can see, it was a tasteful group and we were among good company.
We’re thinking maybe it’s time to make this a bi-annual event, perhaps throwing a Fair Shares happy hour into the mix every other year. Regardless, we like the opportunity to visit with our members, so we’ll keep you posted.
