Fair Shares strives to carry items that aren’t just locally made, but also use locally grown ingredients. We see this as a great way to make the money you spend with us go further towards supporting the local food economy. Not only do we think these products taste better, but we like the idea that when you open up a jar of salsa from us, you are supporting both an artisanal producer and a local farmer. It’s better for our farmers and better for the Saint Louis economy.
With that said, we’re really excited to feature a special loaf of bread created for Fair Shares by Companion Bakery this week. It is a Whole Wheat Sourdough Batard made with locally grown organic wheat milled by Richard Knapp. Sauce Magazine‘s September issue had a great feature on Richard’s ongoing efforts to grow hard wheat suitable for bread baking. As you can read in the article below, bread made with local flour has been a long time coming in Saint Louis, and we’re happy to finally offer it exclusively to our members.
Fair Shares makes eating local easy.
