Homemade Granola
Homemade granola is not only easy, it’s so much better than store bought. The best part is that you can customize it to your taste. I used several Fair Shares ingredients to make this. It’s wonderful in yogurt as well as with milk.
2 cups old fashioned oats
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
3 tbsp canola or grape seed oil
1 tbsp water
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup extra ingredients( see note)
Preheat oven to 275
Mix oats, wheat germ, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.
Heat syrup, brown sugar, water and oil in a saucepan on the stove till the sugar incorporates. Add this to the bowl with dry ingredients and combine. Mix in any other ingredients except dried fruit.
Using clean hands, squeeze clumps of granola together (to get the yummy clusters as it bakes) and place on a parchment paper lined jelly roll pan. Bake for 1 hour.
Note: nuts are a great add. These can be stirred in and baked with the oats. I used pepitas, sunflower seeds, and pistachios. I was out of pecans otherwise they are my first choice. Dried fruit is another great addition. This must be stirred in after baking so the fruit doesn’t burn. I used dried blueberries. So good! Flake coconut can also be added. And chocolate chips-after baking of course. Adding a splash of vanilla, almond, or lemon extract makes it interesting.
