Welcome to Fair Shares Week 7!

We'll see all Full Share, Mini Share, and EVEN-week Half Share members on Wednesday and Thursday.

To make it easier on us and you at pickup, bring a full sheet of paper with your account holder's First and Last name and Pickup Group written or printed in Large Block Letters so you can flash us and we can find your bag faster. The account holder's name is going to be on the bag, so if the person picking it up has a different name, please help us out--we have 180 new members and haven't memorized everyone's spouses and children's names (yet).

We have really exciting news for everyone who had the pleasure of stepping in that Signup Genius mess we were trying out for the past couple of weeks: We've done away with it. Hold your applause until you hear the next, even more exciting news...

You now can signup for your Pickup Time through your online cart! Thank you, thank you everyone. Here's what you do:

Login to your account using the usual link below. When you click on the Store button to get to your cart, it takes you right to the brand new store category, cleverly named Select a Pickup Time When Making Trades. There you'll find both Wednesday and Thursday Fair Shares, as well as the UCity and Kirkwood Pickup Times.

Please choose your assigned pickup day for your assigned pickup location. In case you're new and unsure which item to select, here's your info (and in case it isn't obvious, FS = Fair Shares, UC = UCity and KW = Kirkwood)
[Delivery Day]
[Pickup Site]
If you're a Fair Shares pickup member and you absolutely must come on the other day, stop what you're doing and reply to let us know right now. We'll wait here...

Okay, now select your preferred time slot. If your preferred time slot is filled up, pick the next one. We can't have all the bags ready for pickup at once, and we don't want too many people on location at once, so this helps us spread everyone out. If you sign up for an early slot, please come early or your bag will be sitting out, and other people who needed that early spot will be eyeballing your bag, watching the frozen items melt.

Then click Add. Ta daa! Now click your Cart and make your trades and order extras. Newbies, see below for more info.

We know, this is a lot of boring text to weed through, so here's a pig.

Help Us Help You!

We need your help in checking that you got what you were supposed to get in your bag before you leave. Let the person with the check-in sheet know of any missing or wrong items. We may not be able to correct a problem in UCity or Kirkwood, but you can help save us a million emails and future work if you let us correct your bag when you pick up at the Mothership.

If you're sending someone to pick up for you, please give them your list and let them know what to do.
Thanks for all the kind words and expressions of gratitude. We appreciate you all so much.

Notes on Trades and Orders

The share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart but you are welcome to buy extra.

Customize your cheese, grains, yogurt, meat, and other choices by deleting these items and adding in the variety you like from the store. Otherwise, we'll choose for you. Here's a video demo on how to make trades.

Please check the descriptions of items. If you are trading for anything that is priced per pound, such as boneless chicken thighs, we will update your cart with the actual weight and price, so what the system and email confirmation say you will be charged will not be accurate. With the variability of package sizes and the limitations of the online store listing, it's helpful to avoid big surprises by reading the description and emailing us requests if you have questions. If what's in your bag is not what you were expecting, give it back. If you're at the Mothership, you may be able to choose something else.

Please do not order until we send the newsletter, even if your cart has been filled. If anything is entered wrong, I need to be able to fix it. We don't send the newsletter until we're ready for you to make trades. Be sure to add info@fairshares.org to your contacts so the email doesn't go to spam.

Login to your account to swap items from your cart and add extras.

The online store opens when you receive this email and closes at 10:30a.m. Wednesday for UCity members.

FS and Kirkwood members have until 11a.m.

Order Your Milk By Sunday for Next Week

If you would like a weekly or bi-weekly standing order of milk (1/2 gallons - whole, creamline, 2%, chocolate, or skim), please email Jamie by 3p.m. Sunday. If you miss the deadline, check the store when making your trades Tuesday night for availability.

If you would like a standing order of pints of heavy cream or half & half, or 12 oz. chocolate milk, please email orders@fairshares.org by noon on the Friday before your pickup to let us know your order. Again, if you miss the deadline, you can order through the store after we've sent the newsletter.
Join our Fair Shares Member group on Facebook to share recipes and ask questions. Our members are fantastic people and wonderful cooks, and many have been doing this as long as we have, so if you have questions, they're here for you, too!
We'll continue posting past recipes and outdated blog posts for a while until we get caught up with all the curbside craziness and Sara has time to get a handle on the new website functions to create new content or at least update the tried and true recipes. We're getting closer.

Birthday Egg Bake

Birthday Egg Bake
A certain Fair Shares involunteer had a birthday recently, and with it being an early work day, the traditional breakfast-in-bed routine got a raincheck, but I still wanted to do something special. So the night before, I made up this scrumptious little birthday egg bake for my scrumptious little birthday boy. In the morning, the alarm went …

Sausage, Asparagus & Gnocchi

Sausage, Asparagus & Gnocchi
I like treating gnocchi like the sassy little dumplings that they are. I rarely boil them in water, and more often bake them or just toss them in with the other ingredients in the dish, allowing them to cook through, from frozen to a little fluffy, and hopefully even crispy and browned a bit.

Lettuce Wrap-a-Rama

Lettuce Wrap-a-Rama
This delicious, simple, 20-minutes-to-make, two-minutes-to-eat recipe is messy and not really as much of a wrap as it is a pick it up and stuff it in your mouth thing. Fun and addictive. I'm already looking forward to leftovers. See the even faster, lazier version here, too! …

Asparagus Pesto

Asparagus Pesto
I first saw asparagus pesto in a New York Times piece by Mark Bittman. It was a really good recipe. I decided to make it again over the weekend, and just threw it together from memory. Really, you can't go wrong, however you want to adapt this recipe…

The Joys of CSA Eating

The Joys of CSA Eating
There is a learning curve to eating locally and seasonally, so give yourself and your family the time to figure it out. It's worth learning because it can save you time and money, make you a more creative cook, and teach you to appreciate your food more as you savor the delicious quality of produce at its …

How to Prep THIS Asparagus

How to Prep Asparagus
When you get asparagus in your CSA, it's going to be so much fresher and more tender than the often tough and woody stalks you'll find in the grocery store. The "proper" technique for removing the tough end is to hold the end and the lower part of the stalk and bend until it snaps. In theory, it will break …
