Welcome to Fair Shares Week 10!

We'll see all Full Share, Mini Share, and EVEN-week Half Share members on Wednesday and Thursday.

To make it easier on us and you at pickup, bring a full sheet of paper with your account holder's info
[First Name]
[Last Name]
[Pickup Site]
written or printed in LARGE, BOLD, BLOCK LETTERS to show us so we can find your bag faster.

Select your pickup time from the online store:
First, note that you need to come on your assigned pickup day, which is [Delivery Day], and your group is [Pickup Site]. If you want to come on the other day, you must reply to this email and tell us before 10a.m. Wednesday so we can get you on the proper report for bagging your share. It was never an issue before, but now it is.

When you login to your account using the "Log in To Your Account" link below, click on the Store button to get to your cart. It takes you right to the Pickup Time. There you'll find both Wednesday and Thursday Fair Shares Pickups, as well as the UCity and Kirkwood Pickup Times. When you use the dropdown window to select your pickup time, don't forget to click Add and put it in your cart. We had a lot of people tell us they selected a time, but it didn't show up, so please check the confirmation email to make sure it's listed. If not go back and add it. You can go back to your cart as many times as you want; only the final update will be saved.

For those of you who miss the trades window, don't sweat it, we just request that you come after 4:30, and be prepared to wait while we fill your share--it won't take us long. PLEASE, SHOW UP ON YOUR PICKUP DAY! Having to disassemble the bags that we've packed is WAY worse than not knowing when you're going to show up. Seriously. If you know you aren't going to make it on your pickup day, let us know.

Beer Order?
If you pickup in UCity or at the Mothership and you ordered Schlafly Beer from the Tap Room to pickup with your FS food, please add the Schlafly Beer Order item to your cart as instructed. What? You don't know about this? You have until 9a.m. Wednesday to make an online beer purchase from Schlafly Beer and pick it up with your share! Here's the skinny.

Ta daa! Now click your Cart and make your trades and order extras. Newbies, see below for more info.

We know, this is a lot of boring text to weed through, so here's a baby.

Anything Missing?

We need your help in checking that you got what you were supposed to get in your bag before you leave. Let us know of any missing or wrong items. We may not be able to correct a problem in UCity or Kirkwood, but you can help save us a million emails and future work if you let us correct your bag when you pick up at the Mothership.

If you're sending someone to pick up for you, please give them your list and let them know what to do.

We've received so many kind words and expressions of gratitude and we thank you and appreciate you all so much.

Notes on Trades and Orders

UCity members, we MUST run the report at 10:30 sharp in order to be able to get your food to you on time. If you're late, we're sorry, but we are not checking email, we're pulling orders and packing bags.

Everyone else, the store shuts you out promptly at 11 am, so if you haven't finished your trades by 11:00, your order won't go through, and you may have credit left to spend. We don't have any time to make adjustments for you on Wednesday before pickups, and your emails won't even be seen before 7:30p.m., so please just wait. If you're a Wednesday pickup member at Fair Shares and you have an issue that needs fixing, we should be able to take care of it if you don't come during the busy first two hours of pickup.
____________________________________________________________________________________

The share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart but you are welcome to buy extra.

Customize Your Share! Cheese, grains, yogurt, meat, and other choices we load in your carts can be customized. For example, when there is Ropp Cheddar Choice in your cart, go to the Cheese Category and find the Ropp cheese variety you want. Add it to your cart and then delete the choice item so you don't end up with two cheeses (because that would be TERRIBLE). Otherwise, we'll choose for you.

Note that if you select an item of a different price, the "Credits" in your cart will be different and you'll either have more to spend or will be charged the overage. Here's a video demo on how to make trades.

Please check the descriptions of items. If you are trading for anything that is priced per pound, such as boneless chicken thighs, we will update your cart with the actual weight and price, so what the system and email confirmation say you will be charged will not be accurate. With the variability of package sizes and the limitations of the online store listing, it's helpful to avoid big surprises by reading the description and emailing us requests if you have questions. If what's in your bag is not what you were expecting, give it back. If you're at the Mothership, you may be able to choose something else.

We don't open the store until we've sent the newsletter because we need to finish updating the store inventory for you to make trades. But...you can log out of your account to browse the store so you are familiar with the categories and items. Also note that we're about to start tidying up the store a bit by creating variations within one item listing (see Ropp Cheddar in the online store).

Login to your account to select your pickup time slot, swap items from your cart and add extras.

You may go in to your account as many times as you like until the store closes. The system will only keep the latest version of your cart.

The online store opens when you receive this email and closes at 10:30a.m. Wednesday for UCity members.

FS and Kirkwood members have until 11a.m. Wednesday.

Confessions: Why I'm Not a Food Blogger

Confessions: Why I'm Not a Food Blogger
Okay, confession time. The photo here illustrates why I am not, and will never be, a food blogger--not even a bad one. What is it about that one photo, you ask? Here's a hint: it's the ONLY photo. I always forget to take photos while I'm cooking. Many of the photos on the Fair Shares recipes are close-ups, not because it looks appealing, but because I already ate half of it before realizing I didn't take the picture.

What would make me a terrible food blogger is not just my lack of remembering to document the process with photos. It isn't that I cook based on what I have only from Fair Shares or what is already at my house. If you really need it spelled out further, read on...

It's All About the Presentation

Who are we kidding? We're only cooking for ourselves and our families these days, so less-than-pristine appearance isn't a big deal. Plus, this is what real food from small, local farmers who don't spray their produce looks like. CSA isn't just about getting food to consumers, it's about creating a steady market for our hard-working farmers, and sharing the risks …

Tip: CSA Eating

Local Food is IN Right Now
There is a learning curve to eating locally and seasonally, so give yourself and your family the time to figure it out. It's worth learning because it can save you time and money, make you a more creative cook, and teach you to appreciate your food more as you savor the delicious quality of produce at it's peak of flavor when it's in season.
