Welcome to Fair Shares Week 5!

Please read this entire newsletter. We need everyone at the Fair Shares Mothership and UCity pickup sites to sign up for a pickup time to help us avoid having too many people at once (Kirkwood members can ignore this). Enter your First and Last name into the Signup Genius EXACTLY as it appears on your account, shown here below in order for our reports to sync properly. This will save us precious time so we can fill the bags ahead of your arrival time.
1. Go to our Signup Genius and find the appropriate Signup for your assigned day and pickup location - we will not be able to fill your share if you come on the wrong day unless you have notified us by email before Wednesday.
2. Choose your preferred time slot
3. Enter the First and Last names as they are shown here: [First Name] [Last Name]
Sign up for a time slot here before 11 am Wednesday. It's pretty straight forward, but here's a video demo.

UCity members: In the event of rain,if the van and all the volunteers aren’t out there in the usual place by the church on Kingsland, we’re trying out the parking garage on Washington Avenue, across the street from the church and just a bit west. 6816 Washington Avenue is across the street from the garage.

We'll see all Full Share, Mini Share, and ODD-week Half Share members on Wednesday and Thursday.

Every week is getting better, with your help

Each week brings us closer to becoming the well-oiled machine we know ourselves to be (ha ha). Please note that we have new volunteers who aren't familiar with all our Fair Shares foods, and nearly 150 new members, with everyone putting in huge orders.

We really need your help in checking that you got what you were supposed to get in your bag before you leave. Let the person with the check-in sheet know of any missing or wrong items. We may not be able to correct a problem in UCity or Kirkwood, but you can help save us a million emails and future work, especially if you pick up at the Mothership.

Thanks everyone, for adapting with us. We appreciate you all and miss chatting with you so much. We can't wait to meet our new members, and encourage everyone to find us on social media and join our Fair Shares Member group on Facebook to share recipes and ask questions.

Notes on Trades and Orders

The Order-Ahead plants did not come in as expected. The rosemary, cucumbers, and most of the rhubarb and super sweet 100 tomatoes were not delivered. We were short a few other plants and noted them on your box. We will attempt to order them again for next week, but Keith said he is running out of some things (he couldn't tell us what). If your request is unavailable, we will offer a substitute. The Order Ahead plan just created more work for us, so we won't be putting them in the store again. We just put what we have available now in the store and will order lots of sungold tomato plants for next week to make everyone happy.

We are getting a little more produce each week, but there still isn't tons. We've put more in the store and less in the shares, so everyone can trade out the non-produce and have more to choose from this week.

Note that the share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart because it will not be added back to your account.

Customize your cheese, grains, yogurt, meat, and other choices by switching these items in your cart for the variety you like from the store. Otherwise, we'll choose for you. Here's a video demo.

Please check the descriptions of items. If you are trading for anything that is priced per pound, you may want to email (reply) to let us know your intention, e. g. whether you are looking for three packages versus three pounds of boneless thighs. With the variability of package sizes and the limitations of the online store listing, sometimes it's helpful to avoid big surprises when we have to guess. We will update your cart with the actual weight and price.

If you order between the time we fill the carts and send the newsletter, you may see a discrepancy in pricing or availability because we don't send the newsletter until we've updated the store.

Login to your account to swap items from your cart and add extras.

The online store opens when you receive this email and closes at 11am Wednesday. UCity must order by 10:30am!

Order Your Milk Ahead for Next Week

We're ordering extras to have on-hand while everyone is in panic mode, but with once a week pickups, we don't want to over order. If you would like to order half gallons of Ozark Mountain Creamery milk (whole, creamline, 2%, chocolate, or skim), please email Jamie by 3p.m. Sunday.

For pints of heavy cream, Half & Half, or chocolate milk (12 oz), please email orders@fairshares.org by Friday before pickup and let us know how many you would like. You may request a standing order.
We'll be reposting lots of past recipes and possibly outdated blog posts for a while until we get caught up with all the curbside craziness and Sara can get a hang of the new website newsletter function.

The Joys of CSA Eating

The Joys of CSA Eating
There is a learning curve to eating locally and seasonally, so give yourself and your family the time to figure it out. Scamorza Broil With Edible Blossoms

Scamorza Broil With Blossoms
My first meal in Italy, in 2001, was with my Italian cousin Nicola, whom we'd never met. He brought Stephen and me (yes, that's correct grammar) to eat at a ristorante di scamorza in Rome. The only thing on the menu was different simple dishes of melted scamorza with one or two ingredients. There was scamorza …

Pea Shoot Pesto

Pea Shoot Pesto
