Welcome to Fair Shares Week 8!

We'll see all Full Share, Mini Share, and EVEN-week Half Share members on Wednesday and Thursday.

To make it easier on us and you at pickup, bring a full sheet of paper with your account holder's info
[First Name]
[Last Name]
[Pickup Site]
written or printed in LARGE, BOLD, BLOCK LETTERS so you can flash us and we can find your bag faster. The account holder's name is going to be on the bag, so if the person picking it up has a different name, please help us out--we have over 180 new members and haven't memorized everyone's spouses and children's names (yet).

We've gotten great feedback on the ease of signing up for your Pickup Time through your online cart. For those of you who miss the trades window, don't sweat it, we just request that you come after 4:30, and be prepared to wait while we fill your share--it won't take us long. BUT PLEASE, SHOW UP ON YOUR PICKUP DAY! Having to disassemble the bags that we've packed is WAY worse than not knowing when you're going to show up. Seriously. If you know you aren't going to make it on your pickup day, let us know.

To select your pickup time from the online store, here's what you do:

Login to your account using the usual link below. When you click on the Store button to get to your cart, it takes you right to the brand new store category, cleverly named Select a Pickup Time. There you'll find both Wednesday and Thursday Fair Shares Pickups, as well as the UCity and Kirkwood Pickup Times.

Please choose your assigned pickup day for your assigned pickup location. In case you're new and unsure which item to select, here's your info--and in case it isn't obvious, FS = Fair Shares, UC = UCity and KW = Kirkwood:

[Delivery Day]
[Pickup Site]

If you're a Fair Shares pickup member and you absolutely must come on the other day, we need to know before 11 am Wednesdays, so stop what you're doing and reply to let us know right now. We'll wait here...

Okay, now select your preferred time slot. If your preferred time slot is filled up, pick the next one. We can't have all the bags ready for pickup at once, and we don't want too many people on location at once, so this helps us spread everyone out.

Then click Add. Oops, did you forget what time you selected? You can check your order confirmation email and find it there. Ta daa! Now click your Cart and make your trades and order extras. Newbies, see below for more info.

We know, this is a lot of boring text to weed through, so here's a goat.

Help Us Help You!

We need your help in checking that you got what you were supposed to get in your bag before you leave. Let the person with the check-in sheet know of any missing or wrong items. We may not be able to correct a problem in UCity or Kirkwood, but you can help save us a million emails and future work if you let us correct your bag when you pick up at the Mothership.

If you're sending someone to pick up for you, please give them your list and let them know what to do.
Thanks for all the kind words and expressions of gratitude. We appreciate you all so much.

Notes on Trades and Orders

UCity members, we MUST run the report at 10:30 sharp in order to be able to get your food to you on time. If you're late, we're sorry, but we are not checking email, we're pulling orders and packing bags.

Everyone else, the store shuts you out promptly at 11 am, so if you haven't finished your trades by 11:00, your order won't go through, and you may have credit left to spend. We don't have any time to make adjustments for you on Wednesday before pickups, and your emails won't even be seen before 7:30p.m., so please just wait. If you're a Wednesday pickup member at Fair Shares and you have an issue that needs fixing, we should be able to take care of it if you don't come during the busy first two hours of pickup.
____________________________________________________________________________________

The share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart but you are welcome to buy extra.

Customize Your Share! Cheese, grains, yogurt, meat, and other choices we load in your carts can be customized. For example, when there is Ropp Cheddar Choice in your cart, go to the Cheese Category and find the Ropp cheese variety you want. Add it to your cart and then delete the choice item so you don't end up with two cheeses (because that would be TERRIBLE). Otherwise, we'll choose for you.

Note that if you select an item of a different price, the "Credits" in your cart will be different and you'll either have more to spend or will be charged the overage. Here's a video demo on how to make trades.

Please check the descriptions of items. If you are trading for anything that is priced per pound, such as boneless chicken thighs, we will update your cart with the actual weight and price, so what the system and email confirmation say you will be charged will not be accurate. With the variability of package sizes and the limitations of the online store listing, it's helpful to avoid big surprises by reading the description and emailing us requests if you have questions. If what's in your bag is not what you were expecting, give it back. If you're at the Mothership, you may be able to choose something else.

We don't open the store until we've sent the newsletter because we need to finish updating the store inventory for you to make trades. But...you can log out of your account to browse the store so you are familiar with the categories and items. Also note that we're about to start tidying up the store a bit by creating variations within one item listing (see Ropp Cheddar in the online store).

Login to your account to select your pickup time slot, swap items from your cart and add extras.

You may go in to your account as many times as you like until the store closes. The system will only keep the latest version of your cart.

The online store opens when you receive this email and closes at 10:30a.m. Wednesday for UCity members.

FS and Kirkwood members have until 11a.m. Wednesday.

Order Your Milk By Sunday for Next Week

If you would like a weekly or bi-weekly standing order of milk (1/2 gallons - whole, creamline, 2%, chocolate, or skim), please email Jamie by 3p.m. Sunday. If you miss the deadline, check the store when making your trades Tuesday night for availability.

If you would like a standing order of pints of heavy cream or half & half, or 12 oz. chocolate milk, please email orders@fairshares.org by noon on the Friday before your pickup to let us know your order. Again, if you miss the deadline, you can order through the store after we've sent the newsletter.
Join our Fair Shares Member group on Facebook to share recipes and ask questions. Our members are fantastic people and wonderful cooks, and many have been doing this as long as we have, so if you have questions, they're here for you, too!

Strawberries are here!

One of our Amish farmers, Harvey Yoder, said he can get over 300 quarts, but rather than choose who of our over 425 members does and who doesn't get them this week, we've decided to put them all in the store--first come, first served. If they don't all get ordered, we might substitute them into shares for like priced items on Thursday.

Lettuce Give Thanks

Lettuce Give Thanks
It's lettuce season. This is the time of the year when organizing a combined CSA gets difficult. When everyone who grows lettuce for us has lettuce ready, and we have committed to buying their lettuce, we all get a little tired of salads. Now you may wonder why we would commit to purchasing lettuce from so many farmers, and that's a good question, with a reasonable answer: the weather makes us do it.

Mess o’ Greens Recipe

This recipe calls for collards, but any of your greens will be fabulous like this. Also note that we suggest rolling the leaves together and slicing them into 1/2-inch strips before cooking to avoid the mess and hassle later.

Lettuce Wrap-a-Rama
This delicious, simple, 20-minutes-to-make, two-minutes-to-eat recipe is messy and not really as much of a wrap as it is a pick it up and stuff it in your mouth thing. Fun and addictive. I'm already looking forward to leftovers. See the even faster, lazier version here, too! …
