Welcome to Week 6

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, EVEN-week half-share and Delivered-share members tomorrow and Thursday.

Last Chance to buy your Circus Flora Tickets so you can join us Father's Day, June 19th at 1p.m.

We have enough people signed up so far to receive the discounted tickets for $15 (save $5!), but we need 100 attendees in our group to get the VIP tent so we can mingle with the circus performers! Get tickets for the family, the neighbors, your coworkers, and for your dad and grandpa--it's on Father's Day, and this will save you from having to make a plan. Details here.

Please read the newsletters: This is how we communicate important information to you!

BYOB:  Please remember to bring your bags with you.  If you borrowed a guilt bag last week, please return it so others can borrow it when they have a bag emergency, too!

Missed Shares Policy: We're going to become a little more strict about needing to know if you're coming for your share after a missed pickup. When Kitchen Kulture opens their brick and mortar store, we will be working with them to reduce food waste in the form of fresh produce by using what's left after Thursday's pickups in the phenomenally delicious prepared meals they make for us. Pretty cool, we think! So let's start working on the timeline: If you have missed your share, please let us know before noon Friday if you want to come get your share.

Delivered Share Members: Kevin will be posting the video describing this week's share here on our Fair Shares YouTube Channel by mid morning Thursday.

Help Spread the Word and get a $5 Food Credit!

For the month of May, we're offering members a $5 credit for each Trial Membership or Signup they encourage.

Please let friends and family know how much you love Fair Shares and encourage them to sign up, and tell them to give your name to let us know how they hear of us in order to get your credit. History has shown there is no better way than word of mouth from our members. How about posting something on your Facebook or Twitter account? You can also help by writing a review on our LocalHarvest.org listing. If you haven't reviewed us there for a while and would like to post a follow-up, or if you're rejoining after taking some time off, it's always helpful for potential members to read about continued satisfaction or returning members.

Our Two-week trial membership is a great way to check out Fair Shares and kick the tires before making a commitment. We have Fair Shares brochures we would be happy to send along.

Trades and Additional Purchases

Remember, fresh produce IS NOT tradable, but you're welcome to order extra.

Please read the rules of trading and how we like to receive your trades and orders on the Trades and Orders page of our website (note you must be logged in to access this page).

Place orders by noon (Delivered-share members, please email by 10a.m. Thursday, but if you wait until after noon on Wednesday, check the Wednesday evening newsletter for the updated produce list) to orders@fairshares.org -- you can just reply to this email.

Be sure to include your account name--which is your name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food! (New members, check the reply email we sent when you joined to find your account name: Re: Receipt - Join as a New Member)-

Coconut Oil $11.30
When ordering, please specify refined (qt.) or unrefined (pt.). Though it seems contrary to the amount of effort and energy required for processing, the unrefined coconut oil is twice the price of the refined coconut oil--in my opinion, it's worth it. Some people may use coconut oil for the health benefits; for me, it's all about the flavor and aroma. If you haven't popped your popcorn in unrefined coconut oil, you are missing out on one of the greatest joys in life (I said it was my opinion, didn't I?). Mmmm, popcorn.

Ribeyes and NY Strips. Mix and Match: 1 for $12.50 (regular $13)  -  2 for $24 ($12 each)  -  4 for $44 ($11 each)  -  6 for $ 60 ($10 each)  -  8 for $72 ($9 each)

Kitchen Kulture Yummy Prepared Foods

New in the shares for our second five-week menu cycle is a vegetable soup featuring Three Rivers gai lan and La Vista kale and spinach with wild rice. Everything they've brought so far has been over-the-top delicious, so we can't wait to try this! $10.

Saag Paneer: $10. Staff favorite! The beauty of this prepared meal is that you can add meat or tofu and/or vegetables, and serve it over rice or noodles to extend it into a dish the whole family will enjoy. It is marvelously rich and perfectly flavored. I might never cook again...

Please leave a second choice when you order, or don't plan to make even trades. You can always ask for items from other lists--we just don't always know if there will be extra to sell by the time the newsletter goes out.

Strawberries $6.00/qt. We want to apologize to all the people who got the iffy strawberries last week. We have a better source this week, and they are cheaper! Yay! These are organically grown (not certified).

Sunflower & Pea Shoot Mix: $4. This lovely mix of shoots make a tasty addition to your salad and are an impressive last-minute toss-in for your freshly cooked pasta.
Lettuce: $4. We have a few extra loose leaf lettuce and salanova head lettuce--let us know if you have a preference.

Kale: $3/.75lb.
Spinach: $3.75/.5lb.

Carrots: $3.50/lb.

Kohlrabi: $1.50 ea. We didn't get enough to put in a share, so we're just offering them for sale. Slice one up for the veggie tray, roast or saute, or make the slaw featured below.

Ozark Forest Mushrooms: $7.00. Shiitakes.

Cut Herbs: Chives, Sage, Lemon Balm, Thyme, Mint, Oregano: $1.25

Potted Herbs: $2/pot. Order Your Herbs for Planting! I forgot to order the plants yesterday, but upon looking at the orders and availability, it wouldn't have been worth the farmer's while to deliver, since some of the items we need aren't available yet. Therefore I don't have to apologize--just kidding. I'm very sorry if you were hoping to get your herbs and we don't have your full order. We'll continue to take plant orders while the plant supplies last. Cilantro and dill will be available in a couple of weeks (sorry--no orange mint, poblano peppers or Aunt Ruby tomatoes).

Chris at Kitchen Kulture is working hard to help our former Live Springs farmers get back on their feet. Please read her letter for an update on Bobbi's and Alex's transition, and if you are moved to contribute, we would be happy to collect checks at pickups to pass along.Read more
Kohlrabi is low in calories, high in nutrients and a great raw snack. If you need an instant immune system boost, then try snacking on a cup of raw Kohlrabi. Of all the vitamins in kohlrabi, vitamin C is the most abundant. A cup of raw kohlrabi has almost 84 mg of vitamin C, which is more than enough to meet your daily requirement. It also has a good amount of the B vitamins, which play a role in increasing metabolic rates and maintaining healthy skin and hair.Read more
When you're feeling too lazy--er--busy--to make the crust (or even defrost and roll out the pizza dough from SLU). Reach for a Cham Pita and whip up a delectable flatbread pizza (i.e. pitza) with fresh and canned local ingredients. You can have dinner ready in under 15 minutes.Read more
Salads with fresh seasonal fruit and nuts make springtime such a joy, and this homemade salad dressing says "I love you" (even if you're just talking to yourself, because who are we really kidding here? I'm cooking for me--if you happen to be here and get some of my leftovers, well, lucky you...).Read more
Chicken stock is a great secret ingredient in making delicious rice or pasta dishes, as well as soups and casseroles. There is no trick to making great stock. Even if you have nothing special to add but your happy chicken bones, your stock will be better--and better for you--than any canned version.Read more
