Welcome to Fair Shares Week 31!

We'll see all Full-share, Mini-share, Delivered-share and ODD-week Half-share members on Wednesday and Thursday.

We had overwhelmingly positive feedback on our notice from the last two weeks, and an amazing number of members donated in the online store. We are so appreciative of the generosity many of you show--whether in clicking the donation items or offering your share to friends and family when you take vacation, or bringing us cat food that you can't use at home--every little bit is really helpful to us.

We are feeling the love and would like to give a little back, so please join us for a Fair Shares Happy Hour. Details below.

Also, if anyone has recently updated their laptop and would like to donate their old one to Fair Shares, we've had two casualties in the past month, and the last remaining one here is a dinosaur...will trade for food!

Fair Shares Holiday Schedule

We know it's only Halloween, but we're going to be super annoying and start talking about the winter holidays. Everyone needs to know the special Thanksgiving schedule, and there's a blog on ordering your Thanksgiving turkey below. Following is the info you need about the pickup schedule. Please mark your calendars!

Thanksgiving Week is Week 35, an ODD week
- Fair Shares Mothership pickups will take place on Monday or Tuesday, November 25th or 26th, regular hours. You can choose either day.
Delivered Shares will receive a double share the Thursday before, November 21st. If you order turkey, you will need to pick it up from the Mothership on Monday or Tuesday the 25th or 26th.
- UCity and Kirkwood members will get their shares on Tuesday, November 26th at the regular location and time. Turkey orders will be available at your pickup.

Christmas and New Years Schedule
Christmas and New Years Day are on Wednesdays this year. That leaves us little option but to close for both weeks. We're extremely concerned about taking two weeks off, so we are thinking of asking everyone to spend one  or both of your week's shares value. Food makes a great gift, so please consider helping us and our farmers by spending your hard-earned money on local food for friends and family. We would be happy to print out a gift certificate for a trial share and/or put together a gift bag of Fair Shares goodies. We plan to open on Thursday, January 2nd for a Happy Hour Shopping Day.

Notes on Trades and Orders

Please do not add items to your cart until your tradable share items have been added. Note that the share clipboards in the newsletter will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart because it will not be added back to your account. If you are trading for meat or fish that is priced per pound, you may want to email (reply to this email) to let us know your intention, e.g. whether you are trying to trade close to even, or whether you are looking for three packages of boneless thighs versus three pounds of boneless thighs. With the variability of package sizes and the limitations of the online store listing, sometimes it's helpful to avoid big surprises when we have to guess.

If you order before receiving the newsletter, you may see a discrepancy in pricing or availability because we don't send the newsletter until we've updated the store.

Login to your account to swap items from your cart and add extras. Remember you can customize your cheese, yogurt, gyro, Del Carmen, Wildcard$ and other choices by switching these items to your preferred choices in your cart.

Fair Shares Mothership and UCity Pickup Members: The online store closes at 11am on the day of your pickup, so be sure to login and make your trades before then.

Kirkwood and Delivered Share Members: You have until 9:00 on Thursday morning to place orders.  After 9am, we are not at our computers, so even if you are able to access your cart and the store, we won't see it. Keep in mind that Wednesday pickups and on-site purchases might make the quantity available in the store false.

KIRKWOOD MEMBERS: Please note - we request the THIRD to last person text us when you pick up. If you are one of the last two people, you may be appreciative of the reminder to fetch your food. We also need the last bag pickup member to let us know everyone has picked up. Lindy's phone number is on the clipboard. Thanks!

Order by Wednesday the 20th! Matt and Eleanor Tiefenbrun of Buttonwood Farm have our pastured, happy turkeys well under way. Reserve yours through your online cart--Thanksgiving is right around the corner. You can tell all your friends, too, because even non-members are welcome to purchase their Thanksgiving turkeys from Fair Shares! You can also order just boneless breasts, wings, drumsticks or thighs.Read more

Go Topless!

Woo woo. Take it off baby! When you receive root veggies with the greens attached, it's important to remove the tops from the roots. The greens are edible if they're in good shape--yes, even radish greens--and don't think that just because they are wilted that they are not good. They are just thirsty! Why? Because the roots and the greens are competing for the moisture in the plant. This is why you want to separate them. It will help keep your greens perky and your roots firm. Just cut off the roots below the rubber band or twist tie and... Read more
I was obsessed with this recipe a number of years ago when Arianna first adapted it from Smitten Kitchen. The original recipe called for celery, but since we don't have celery locally, she substituted Japanese Turnips. It was delicious and I resurrect it every year.Read more
The summer has given way to fall, so what to do with all those green tomatoes that are taking their sweet time ripening. Don't be afraid of the green! You can use green tomatoes raw or cooked, and you can let them ripen if you're patient. Biver has lots of mixed ripe and green (but mostly green) cherry tomatoes available, so we put them in a share, and included here are links to some pages we found with multiple ideas to help inspire you.Read more
Don't just compost those radish and turnip greens! This recipe calls for a lot more greens than you are likely to get on your bunch, but you can add other greens to make up the quantity.Read more
