Summer Vacation Poliicy

We have lots of people putting their shares on hold late, so we'll keep this bit of info front and center for a while. The benefit of putting your share on hold is relatively new for our program. Since we are a Community Supported Agriculture trying to support our local farmers, allowing members to skip pickups during high-produce season is somewhat counter to that goal. But we understand that getting your share covered is not always easy. Still, we really appreciate your attempting to sell or gift your shares while you're away. Many members find it the perfect way to compensate house/pet-sitters, while helping Fair Shares gain exposure.

Because we are not a grocery store with the ability to sell extra perishable produce outside our Wednesday and Thursday pickups, it is imperative that we keep from over ordering. We try to have extras avaiable so members can get their favorite items, but when four or five members don't show up, or put their share on hold after we've ordered, the leftover produce really adds up. Restocking and accommodating rescheduled pickups becomes more cumbersome in the summer, and it does nothing to help the integrity of your food. So please do let us know if and when you know you won't make it to your pickup.

You may put your share on hold through your account, but you must do so by Midnight Sunday. If you miss this deadline, email us. You may send someone else to pick up your food or you can pick it up Wednesday, Thursday or Friday instead of your regular day. Otherwise, you will be charged for your produce because we have already purchased it for you. Due to the volume of produce that comes in each week, we are unable hold over produce from the previous week. If you tell us (Sara, Jamie or Lindy, not our volunteers) and we tell you we will take care of it, you will not be charged, otherwise, we'll put a fee on your account for the produce portion of your share. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep this in balance.

Notes on Trades and Orders
Please do not add items to your cart until your tradable share items have been added. Note that the share clipboards in the newsletter will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart because it will not be added back to your account. If you are trading for meat or fish that is priced per pound, you may want to email (reply to this email) to let us know your intention, e.g. whether you are trying to trade close to even, or whether you are looking for three packages of boneless thighs versus three pounds of boneless thighs. With the variability of package sizes and the limitations of the online store listing, sometimes it's helpful to avoid big surprises when we have to guess.

If you order before receiving the newsletter, you may see a discrepancy in pricing or availability because we don't send the newsletter until we've updated the store.

Login to your account to swap items from your cart and add extras. Remember you can customize your cheese, yogurt, gyro, Del Carmen and other choices by switching these items to your preferred choices in your cart.

Fair Shares Mothership and UCity Pickup Members: The online store closes at 11am on the day of your pickup, so be sure to login and make your trades before then.

Kirkwood and Delivered Share Members: You have until 9:00 on Thursday morning to place orders. Keep in mind that Wednesday pickups and on-site purchases might make the quantity available in the store

KIRKWOOD MEMBERS: Please note a new policy. We request the THIRD to last person text us when you pick up. The last two people didn't show up last week, so we had a lot of food to eat when we picked up the bags on Friday!

The rich, sweet flavor of sungold tomatoes makes this sauce deliciously appealing with very little effort and few ingredients.Read more
The standard by which all other pizza is judged. A margherita pizza (like a margarita cocktail) is a simple thing of beauty and is only as good as the ingredients used to make it. A good crust, fresh heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil and fresh mozzarella are the consummate ingredients. Here's our version.Read more
Whole eggplant roasted under the broiler makes for a super smooth texture in a richly-flavored puree. Squeeze in fresh garlic, add salt and pepper, a little lemon juice and tahini for babaganoush. Add garlic, a little chevre and fresh basil for a nice sauce for pasta or rice. Or add fresh chopped peppers and tomatoes and other veggies for a tasty side dish or base for the rest of your meal.Read more
Member Joanne McAndrews has come through once again with a winning recipe! This one from Detoxinista is great for those of you with an Instant Pot. Those without a pressure cooker can get out your Slow Food standby, the crockpot, and enjoy a more leisurely pace for dinner prep.Read more
This recipe has a pretty laid back approach, as cooking should. Serve with a good lager or a margarita.Read more
This is basic, be creative, add a layer of thinly sliced potatoes to the bottom and top to make a scalloped potato, okra and corn dish. Stir in some shrimp, add some peppers.
