Welcome to Week 15!

We'll see all Full Shares, ODD-week Half Shares, Mini Shares and Delivered Shares this week. Odd week half shares pick up as usual, but note that EVEN-week members just skipped last week, so you have another two weeks before your pickup. If you would like to come shop, or take a share this week, come on in!

We hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. Summer is here...let's eat!

A Note About Our Online Store
Keeping the inventory in the store accurate is next to impossible with our system and schedule, so if we are out of something you request, we may contact you if time allows, or send an alternative option. You can always trade it and select something different from the swap items available at your pickup site (sorry, this option is not available to Delivery to Groups members). If you're looking for something you don't see, just email/ask because we might have it even if it isn't in the store.

Delivered share members must order by 9:00am on your delivery day.
Pickup members must order by noon on your pickup day.

Login to your Farmigo account to swap out the tradable items in your cart.

We're losing two more amazing Fair Shares volunteers to real, paying jobs (I'm so sure). Congratulations, Anne and Emily! We're SOOOooo happy for you! Oh, and by the way, our two other Tuesday volunteers are out of town in July, too.

Anne Posega, UCity member for a million years, has been volunteering in UCity at the pickup for a number of years, and last summer came to help us out at the Mothership on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Anne has become invaluable in getting all the food weighed, measured, counted, divvied into groups and pulled for pickups each week. She starts a new job on July 16th so this is her last week!

Emily Levin, FS member forever, also joined us last summer to help weigh, organize, and pull orders with Anne on Wednesdays, as well as helping members get their food at the start of pickups. Emily is starting a job in August, so we will definitely be needing some help!

We ordered two dozen of these elated eggs (even happier than our regular eggs!) from Blind Star Farms. Let us know if you are willing to pay an extra 10 cents per egg for the real deal. That comes to $6.00/dozen. Seriously, at 50 cents per egg, how much happier can you get? Here's what they say about their eggs:Read more

It's peach and tomato season, which means it's time for a reminder that Fair Shares is not a grocery store. Unlike a grocery, we don't buy in lots of extra produce to account for the amount of waste that grocery stores experience because they allow customers to touch every peach and tomato, squeezing, battering and bruising it until it's ready for the compost heap! Also unlike a grocery store, we purchase tomatoes ripe off the vine, so the flavor and nutrients are at their peak. The heirloom varieties are so delicate that we have to purchase them a bit under-ripe in order for them to make it ...Read more
I first discovered ground cherries about 25 years ago in Madison, Wisconsin at the stellar farmers' market that encircles the Capitol every Saturday morining, rain or shine, drawing oodles of farmers, bakers, and flower growers from hours away to sell their wares to the always huge crowds. I was intrigued by the tiny tomatillo-looking fruits, and the farmer handed me one to taste. I peeled open the cherry-tomato-sized berry with a papery husk to reveal a shiny yellow pearl...Read more
The sweetness of the peach adds a nice counter to the spicy jalapeno, and the peach and tomato together...well, they've kind of got a thing going on.Read more
Shishitos are tasty little peppers that you can add to any dish you're cooking, but are most fun to enjoy with a group. These peppers are mild and delicious and make a great tapas dish to share, but beware, because every one in ten or so is spicy -- better have a beer nearby as you take turns trying the next pepper! So grab a few friends and a few beers and cook up a little party (if you're lucky enough to have family members that feel like friends, even better). Simply saute them whole--stems and all--in some good olive oil with sea salt, and a few halved garlic cloves, if desired. When ...Read more
