Welcome to Week 44!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, EVEN-week half-share and Delivered-share members this week.

FIVE!
We are in the home stretch to the end of Fair Shares Season 11! After this week, we have only four weeks remaining before our March break.

Trades and Orders

Please check your list at the bottom of the newsletter and note that we may be giving a choice, or more info there than what is listed in your cart. Login to your Fair Shares account in Farmigo to make trades and order extras. The tradable items in your share are listed in your cart. You can delete the items you don't want and add in other items from the store.

As we approach the end of the season, we try to reduce our inventory, so you will see more Wilcards $ in the shares. We'll put a variety out for you to choose from, but we're really just trying to keep the over/under values on the shares as close to $0 as possible. Feel free to customize your share to include what you and your family like. You're not hurting our feelings when you trade everything out of your share. Now is the time to fill your larder with all the staples you'll need for our upcoming break.

Ordering Deadlines:
11a.m. Wednesday for Wednesday pickup groups
Noon Thursday for Thursday pickup groups>>> THIS WEEK ONLY: If possible, Thursday members please order by 9:30. We have to be away for the launch of the Fresh Rx program
during the day and will be short on time! (soooo, exciting--check the media on Thursday!)
9 a.m. Thursday for Delivered Share members

If you're a half share wanting to order from the store on your off weeks, let us know and we'll set up your cart to handle that. Otherwise, you can just come on in and shop in person during regular pickup hours.

Thursday pickup groups: we often don't have time to pull Thursday orders on Wednesday, and we may not have everything available if you ordered before the store update Wednesday evening.

Please note that on-premise sales may make the numbers in the store inventory moot. In the event that we are out of any items you ordered, we will either email, send substitutes or omit the item (depending on how much time we have). Any questions, email orders@fairshares.org.

I just read about the EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet, Health and it really sparked my interest. The commission is a group of 30 scientists from around the globe who are working together to come up with a consensus on what constitutes a diet that will promote health and sustainability for the planet. They're speaking our language, and it's especially interesting to consider how to incorporate our local diet into their suggestions.Read more
Member Joanne McAndrews offered another stellar-looking recipe that I adjusted to a Fair-Shares-ingredients version. The original version called for aritchoke hearts, and no meat. Check out the original from the Eating Well site and see my adaptations (in red).Read more
I brought home a couple of smoked pig's feet from our last Blind Star delivery. I have to admit it's the first time the phrase "These feet smell good!" came out of my mouth. As far as I know, it's the first time foot bathwater went into my mouth, too. Anyway, I learned a few things and thought I should share it. When you put pigs feet (or any other bones) in the crockpot and let them cook overnight, be sure to strain the broth before you add beans or any other solid ingredients for your soup. Do you see where this is going? The feet fall apart and there are tiny little knuckle bones that are ...Read more
It's the perfect time of year for this sort of rich, spicy dish. The aromas are positively intoxicating. I'm sure those of you smarty pants with an instant pot will adjust the recipe accordingly and have dinner ready before the rest of us. Enjoy!Read more
This chili with meat recipe from Jane Brody’s Good Food Book serves up a great one-dish meal. You can prepare ahead and freeze it. We often double or quadruple it and freeze half. It’s good cold too. Consider adding a variety of meats, including bison and lamb as well as ground beef. Substitute any variety or combination of cooked Bellews Creek and Del Carmen beans for the kidney beans.Read more
There's just something so satisfying about soup in the cold weather. It warms the body and the soul. And right now, with all the winter root veggies, it's easy to make a hearty, healthy pot full of all-local deliciousness from whatever share you get each week.Read more
