We are officially in the count down to the end of Fair Shares Season 11! After this week, we have only five weeks remaining before our March break.

Trades and Orders

Please check your list at the bottom of the newsletter and note that we may be giving a choice, or more info there than what is listed in your cart. Login to your Fair Shares account in Farmigo to make trades and order extras. The tradable items in your share are listed in your cart. You can delete the items you don't want and add in other items from the store.

Ordering Deadlines:
11a.m. Wednesday for Wednesday pickup groups
Noon Thursday for Thursday pickup groups
9 a.m. Thursday for Delivered Share members

If you're a half share wanting to order from the store on your off weeks, let us know and we'll set up your cart to handle that. Otherwise, you can just come on in and shop in person during regular pickup hours.

Now is the time to fill your larder with all the staples you'll need for our upcoming break. Feel free to customize your share to include what you and your family like. 

Thursday pickup groups: we often don't have time to pull Thursday orders on Wednesday, and we may not have everything available if you ordered before the store update Wednesday evening.

Please note that on-premise sales may make the numbers in the store inventory moot. In the event that we are out of any items you ordered, we will either email, send substitutes or omit the item (depending on how much time we have). Any questions, email orders@fairshares.org.

This chili with meat recipe from Jane Brody’s Good Food Book serves up a great one-dish meal. You can prepare ahead and freeze it. We often double or quadruple it and freeze half. It’s good cold too. Consider adding a variety of meats, including bison and lamb as well as ground beef. Substitute any variety or combination of cooked Bellews Creek and Del Carmen beans for the kidney beans.Read more

I brought home a couple of smoked pig's feet from our last Blind Star delivery. I have to admit it's the first time the phrase "These feet smell good!" came out of my mouth. As far as I know, it's the first time foot bathwater went into my mouth, too. Anyway, I learned a few things and thought I should share it. When you put pigs feet (or any other bones) in the crockpot and let them cook overnight, be sure to strain the broth before you add beans or any other solid ingredients for your soup. This is not lasagne, because we aren’t using lasagne noodles. But it is pasta in a crockpot and it is super versatile and fairly forgiving. Use what you have in the house. Omit the items that don’t sound good, and add others that do.Read more
