Welcome to Week 7!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, ODD-week half-share and Delivered share members tomorrow and Thursday.

PATIENCE PLEASE
Our apologies for any delays or mistakes we may make (as well as for this probably sub-par newsletter) for this week and next. With Lindy recovering from knee surgery on Monday and Kevin leaving for a week away this Thursday, we are down 2/5 of our staff, though we do have an array of stellar member volunteers who have stepped up to offer their time to help us get the shares together. We do love the opportunity to show more of you how this crazy-little thing called Fair Shares works so you can appreciate our ability to fake the appearance of a well-oiled machine.

Baetje Cheese Tasting June 6th

We're hosting a Baetje Cheese tasting for members and friends on Tuesday, June 6th at 6p.m. Please mark your calendar and gather the troops. It's a party situation.

Trades and Additional Purchases

Please read the rules of trading and how we like to receive your trades and orders on the Trades and Orders page of our website (note you must be logged in to access this page).

Place orders by noon* to orders@fairshares.org -- you can just reply to this email.
*Delivered-share members: please email by noon Wednesday OR wait until after you've received the Wednesday evening newsletter and order by 9:30a.m. Thursday. (Because we may no longer have certain items available, please check the Wednesday evening newsletter for the updated produce list).

Be sure to include your account name--which is your last name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food.

New Yogurt
Yo-Bul Sheep and Cows Milk Yogurt: $2.50/6oz.
Windcrest Greek Peach and Blueberry Yogurt: $1.50/6oz. Windcrest will be out of the non-Greek fruit yogurts for a while, so we may transition over as we order weekly. Right now, we still have Strawberry and Peach in non-Greek, and Blueberry and Peach in Greek

Prairies Fruits Cheeses
Black Goat: $6.50. A bloomy-rind goat round dusted in vegetable ash to neutralize the acidity and give a mellow and buttery finish.
Little Bloom: $9.50. Bloomy-rind camembert style with a mushroomy rind and slightly tangy yet creamy interior.
Angel Food: $5. Bloomy-rind brie-type with a thin rind and creamy paste. All these cheeses are worth letting them come to room temp for the full-flavor experience.

Bittersweet Artisan Chocolate Treats
Lava Cakes (Frozen): $8/2-pk. If you were one of the smart moms who bought herself one of these for the kids to give you for Mother's Day, you know that this is the stuff of dreams. We highly recommend wrapping one in butcher paper and marking it "pigs feet" or "beef heart" to store in the freezer for emergencies. Just like on an airplane, you have to save yourself before you can save the children.

Salted Caramel Chocolate Sauce*: $10.75. Just heat and add a spoon. Or dip in fresh strawberries, or spoon over ice cream, vanilla yogurt or even pancakes.
*Note save $1 when you purchase this as part our May Member Special below.

May Member Special - Almond O'Joy

Kitchen Kulture

Apple Cider and Tarragon Dressing: $7.50/pt. This is rich and creamy, but dairy free. Delish as a dip or on your salad.
Strawberry Tamarind Dressing: $5.50/8oz. We thought having a lovely salad dressing in the shares during lettuce season would be appreciated. This sweet and tangy dressing also works well as a sauce for vegetables (like asparagus!) and roasted meats.

Saag Paneer: $11. With Mofu Tofu and local greens--just add rice, and maybe some sauteed chicken for a quick and tasty meal.

Coconut Grits: $10. Creamy coconut milk and grits? Okay!
Cheddar Grits: $11. They're cheesy delish and the perfect base for a little grilled meat or fish. Greens on the side, please.

Moroccan Lentil Stew: $11. As seen in the shares! Heady Moroccan spices bring ana exotic savory spice to the dinner table.
Pumpkin Risotto: $11. A hearty side dish with a little sweetness from the winter squash and dried fruit.

Date Lady
Organic Dates or Date Syrup: $7. Add the date syrup to your salad dressing, or use in place of honey in baking, or in your oatmeal

PRODUCE

Some of the produce is limited, so please leave a second choice when you order, or don't plan to make even trades.

Yoder Farms Strawberries: $6.00/qt. Every salad, every yogurt, every peanut butter sandwich...strawberries included. We didn't get lots of extras since everyone has them in their share.

Lettuce: $3.50-$4/share. We aren't sure if we'll have any available, or whose, but if you want some, ask, and we'll send it if we have it.
Spinach: $4/.75lb.

Biver Farms Kale: $4.00/13oz.
Biver Chinese Cabbage: $3.50/hd.

Ivan's Bok Choy: $4/hd.

Yellow Dog Asparagus: $3.25/bu. We're sad to report this might be the end of Carl Saunders's aspragus. We can get more from others, but at a higher price.
Double Star Radishes: $1.75/.5lb. bag

Tomatoes: $3.00/lb. They are red and they are ripe. It's not summer yet, but this is a far more passable version of a tomato that the plastic, tasteless things you'll find shipped in from who knows where in the grocery store. We're just buying one box because, honestly, we think the summer version is worth the wait, but maybe some of you just need a little reminder of what is to come.

Double Star Green Onions: $2.75/bu. Very limited.

Bee Simple Shoots: $4. Not sure what we'll be getting tomorrow - pea, sunflower, maybe a super mix.
Ozark Forest Mushrooms: $7.00. A mix of Shiitakes and Oysters.

Happy Milk from Ozark Mountain Creamery
Order by Sunday for pickup with your share.

This is a quick and easy sauce that you can prepare on a weeknight, but it's good enough for a Sunday night dinner. It's adapted from Ina Garten's Weeknight Bolognese, substituting in all the wonderful Fair Shares goodies we could find.Read more
A good radish sandwich can be nothing more than sweet butter spread on bread and topped with sliced radishes and sea salt. But the different variations can take it from a simple lunch to an elegant hors d'oeuvres fit for a fancy party. Here are a couple ideas to get you started eating your new favorite sandwich.Read more
Whenever the fruit arrives, I go a little nuts and have to eat it with every meal: from granola, yogurt and strawberries for breakfast to fruit, nuts and cheese on salad for lunch, to strawberries and cheese on crackers (served with prosecco, perhaps) for hors d'oeuvres, and do we even begin to talk about dessert?Read more
Whenever there is bibb or butterhead lettuce available, I fantasize about lettuce wraps. You can wrap anything in a lettuce leaf, really, just make sure to make it a fun, communal meal in which everyone gets to participate in the assembly of their own wraps.Read more
