Welcome to Week 2!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, EVEN-week half-share and Delivered share members tomorrow and Thursday.
Even-week half-shares start next week.

Please read the newsletters: This is how we communicate important information to you!

We Need New Members - Tell Two Friends!

Please let friends and family know they can still sign up for Fair Shares Season 10! We need help getting the word out, and history has shown there is no better way than word of mouth from our members. Our Two-week trial membership is a great way to check out Fair Shares and kick the tires before making a commitment, so please encourage your friends and family to try it.

If you know of any businesses, such as your work, gym, or kids' school that might be interested having Fair Shares Delivered, please pass our info along. If you are a Delivered Share member, you can help us by encouraging your co-workers to get on board.

If you are a returning member, we'd love for you to give us a review on our localharvest.org account, as well as on your own social media accounts--word of mouth is always the best advertising for us!

Easter Hams

We have a couple of hams on hand, in case you didn't pre-order, but only a couple, so first come first served!
Bone-in hams are $6.25/lb. (~15-18 lb.)
Boneless Hams are $8/lb. (~7lb.)

Trades and Additional Purchases

Remember, fresh produce IS NOT tradable.

Please read the rules of trading and how we like to receive your trades and orders on the Trades and Orders page of our website (note you must be logged in to access this page).

Place orders by noon* to orders@fairshares.org -- you can just reply to this email.
*Delivered-share members: please email by noon Wednesday OR wait until after you've received the Wednesday evening newsletter and order by 9:30a.m. Thursday. (Because we may no longer have certain items available, please check the Wednesday evening newsletter for the updated produce list). Email orders@fairshares.org -- you can just reply to this email.

Be sure to include your account name--which is your last name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food! (New members, check the reply email we sent when you joined to find your account name: Re: Receipt - Join as a New Member)

PRODUCE

Not a huge variety of fresh stuff is coming in yet, but we have a few extra items to offer. Everything is very limited, so please leave a second choice when you order, or don't plan to make even trades.

Nolte Spinach: $5/.75lb.
Ivan's Italian Heirloom Lettuce: $4/hd.
Ivan's Bok Choy: $4/hd.

EarthDance Purple Daikon RadishesL $3.50/lb. So pretty, not to mention delicious.

Yellow Dog Asparagus: $3.25/bu. Very limited. One per member until we get more in, please. There will be plenty more to come.
Bee Simple Shoots: $4. Not sure what we'll be getting tomorrow - pea, sunflower, maybe a super mix.

Ozark Forest Mushrooms: $7.00. Shiitakes.

Happy Milk from Ozark Mountain Creamery

Low-temp pasteurized, glass-bottled milk. Everyone must have a standing weekly or bi-weekly order (you are welcome to purchase one week to try it and you may cancel or put your standing order on hold at anytime).

Four varieties available: Whole, 2%, Skim, Whole Creamline (unhomogenized), Chocolate and Cream. Cost is $6.25/half gallon ($6.75 for chocolate and $13.50 for cream), and you'll get a $2.25 credit when you return your cleaned Ozark Mountain bottle*. When you return your bottle, please hand it to the person who checks you in for your share and make sure they note your receipt.

*Please don't return other creameries' bottles. Ozark Mountain can refill only their own bottles and won't give us credit.

Here is the dairy's site with more info: http://www.ozarkmtncreamery.com/products.html

Please place your orders with kevin@fairshares.org by Friday to get in on the following week's order. Be sure to include the variety, quantity, and your pickup group (including ODD or EVEN week for half share members). If you are already signed up, you must email by Friday to cancel your standing order if you choose not to get milk next week.

Note that we include many of the articles and recipes for a couple of weeks in a row so our alternate week members all get a chance to see them (and some of you weekly members, too).

Trades, Orders and Credits

Fair Shares operates on a pre-paid credit plan. This means whatever payment plan you select puts that amount on your account as credit, and your weekly (or bi-weekly) shares are deducted from that. If you order extra items or have an overage on your trades, that comes out of your credit as well. When your credit falls below $75, your card will recharge your payment plan amount to insure that we have the money necessary to pay our farmers upon delivery for the food you get each week, as well as for all the extra inventory we keep on hand for your trades and extra purchases.Read more

How to Prep Cooking Greens

Prepping your greens can seem like a chore if you don't have a good system. Try this method for kale, collards, Swiss chard, spinach, etc. and you'll find that it's easy eating greens! 1. De-stem the greens by grasping the stem in one hand and the bottom of the leaf where it meets the stem in the other. Holding the leaf with the back facing you, carefully pull the leaf away from the stem toward the front of the leaf with your thumb and forefinger on either side of the stem. Then lightly squeeze the leaf around the stem and... Read more

SO easy and a different way to enjoy the spinach. We substituted Marcoot Cave-aged Tomme for the parmesan, but you could use scamorza or any aged grating cheese. It was delicious with fresh pasta.Read more
