Welcome to Week 17!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, ODD-week half-share and Delivered share members tomorrow and Thursday.

Please read the article below regarding upcoming changes to our Payment System. It is really important for everyone to be aware of this change.

Trades and Additional Purchases

Please read the rules of trading and how we like to receive your trades and orders on the Trades and Orders page of our website (note you must be logged in to access this page).

Place orders by noon* to orders@fairshares.org -- you can just reply to this email.
*Delivered-share members: please email by noon Wednesday OR wait until after you've received the Wednesday evening newsletter and order by 9:30a.m. Thursday. (Because we may no longer have certain items available, please check the Wednesday evening newsletter for the updated produce list).

Be sure to include your account name--which is your last name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food.

Mr. Meowski's Sourdough
Available frozen this week: $5/loaf.

Kitchen Kulture

Pumpkin Risotto: $11. A hearty side dish with a little sweetness from the winter squash and dried fruit.
Moroccan Lentil Stew: $11.

Vegetable Green Curry: $11. This Thai Green Curry is delicious over rice, pasta, or perhaps the coconut grits below.
Sundried Tomato Grits: $11. We're excited to try this new variety--we were confused about whether this is supposed to be smoked, or sundried tomatoes, and we won't know until they deliver tomorrow, so let us know if you don't want it if it's smoked instead of sundried.

Coconut Grits: $10. Creamy coconut milk and grits? Yes, please!  I mixed this with Saag Paneer, for a win.
Cheddar Grits: $11. They're cheesy delish and the perfect base for a little grilled meat or fish. Greens on the side, please.

Some of the produce is limited, so please leave a second choice when you order, or don't plan to make even trades.

*Yoder Blueberries: $5.50/pt. Blueberries are winding down and we have a limited number of extras for sale.
*Berger Bluff or Centennial Blackberries: $5.50/pt.

Jacob's: $3.50/share. The number per share varies per size.

Jacob's Orchard Peach Seconds: $2.50/share. Peach cobbler, peach pie, peach crisp, peaches and cream, peaches and yogurt, peaches and oatmeal, peach jam, peach butter, peach ice cream. Do you need any more suggestions? I think I ordered a box, so if you want one it's $24. If we don't have it available, let me know if you would like one next week.

Nolte Personal (Small) Cantaloupe:  $1.75.
Kopmann Not-So-Personal (Huge) Cantaloupe: $4.75. The warehouse is smelling quite fruity, get yourself a taste of summer.

Watermelon: $4.50 or $6.75. We have a number of varieties from a couple of different growers. Most are seeded, but there a few seedless melons. We have a couple of different prices based on size, but can't promise seeded or seedless because there are so few, and we don't know which size will be the seedless or seeded. The majority will be seeded so if you will ONLY take seedless, let us know, otherwise we will sub in seeded melons when the seedless run out.

Biver Green Beans: $2.75/.75lb.
St. Isidore Carrots: $3.50. Sweet and tender and AHmazing--you'll never get a carrot like this at the grocery store.
Yoder Carrots: 3.25/bu. You can clean up the tops and use them to make Carrot Top Pesto. Fun!

Celtuce: 2/$3.00.  Use in place of celery in chicken salad, or in a salad or on the veggie platter or stir fry. Tastes like peanuts!

EarthDance Kale: $4/bu.
Biver or EarthDance Swiss Chard: $4.

Biver Sungold Tomatoes: $4/pt. These beloved sweet, gold nuggets represent one of the best things about seasonal eating--the anticipation and the reward for waiting.
Biver Cherry Bomb Tomatoes: $4/pt.

Heirloom Tomatoes: $4.50/share. I didn't really order extra but I think we'll have a few shares to sell. About 1.3lb. shares.
Slicing Tomatoes: $3.80/share. See above.

San Marzanos: $1.50/lb. What? Really, this is an amazing deal and they are aren't even seconds. $1.50/lb. We have 80 pounds, so if you want a 25# box, we can accommodate the first three people who ask.

Nolte Cherry Tomatoes: $2.75. These are from last week, and there may be a wrinkled one, but otherwise they're still great.
Tomato Seconds? Not sure what we might have, but we'll sell the spotted or iffy ones at a discount. If anyone wants a box of seconds from the farm, let us know and we can order it for your next pickup.

Nolte Cucumbers: $1.50/ea.
Biver Pickling Cucumbers: $2.75/lb. I forget that not everyone knows that pickling cucumbers are just a cucumber variety that is small enough to fit in a jar. They are good raw, too.

St. Isidore Fennel: $1.50/3 or 4 heads, approx. half pound share.

Sweet Corn: $1.60/4 ears. This week we're making the corn shares 4 ears instead of 6. Feel free to order more at 40 cents an ear.
Last Week's Corn: Half Price--$1.20/6 ears. This corn is so delicious, and if you are cooking it, you won't know the difference! This is your opportunity to shuck out your winter corn--you won't be sorry.

Biver Tomatillos: $3/.75lb.
Zucchini (and we may have a couple of Yellow Squash): $1.50/ea.

Nolte Eggplant: $1.75/ea. We've been getting a combo of Millionaire, which are a large Asian variety, and globe.

Lee Garlic Scapes: $1.85/.3lb. Chop and use as you would green onions and garlic, and don't miss the garlic scape pesto recipe on the website.
Lee Garlic: $1.50/hd.

Girod Red Potatoes: $3.00/2lb.
Ozark Forest Mushrooms: $7.00.  Shiitakes this week.

This is not a low-cal, healthy recipe. But man it's so good. I may try to adapt this using yogurt instead of mayonnaise--if anyone tries that, let me know! The photo here is a tomato pie made with a homemade whole wheat crust because I don't have a photo of my own. You can find a more realistic image of what the pie for this particular recipe looks like hereRead more
Whole eggplant roasted under the broiler makes for a super smooth texture in a richly-flavored puree. Squeeze in fresh garlic, add salt and pepper, a little lemon juice and tahini for babaganoush. Add garlic, a little chevre and fresh basil for a nice sauce for pasta or rice. Or add fresh chopped peppers and tomatoes and other veggies for a tasty side dish or base for the rest of your meal.Read more
The sweet corn this year is so delicious eaten just raw, naked, right off the cob, so when you dress it up in this rich, decadent outfit, it really turns heads.Read more
