* Many thanks to all of you who donated to our Freezer Fund--every little bit really helps, and we are so grateful! We have realized through this experience that we are riding a fine line between having a good inventory and having a good cash flow, so we are going to put a little squeeze on the spending and try to work down the inventory on hand a bit. If anyone would like to add a couple of dollars to your invoice to help us recover from our $3200 loss, we would happily and graciously accept.

Trades and Additional Purchases

Place orders by noon* to orders@fairshares.org -- you can just reply to this email.
*Delivered-share members: please email by noon Wednesday OR wait until after you've received the Wednesday evening newsletter and order by 9:30a.m. Thursday. (Because we may no longer have certain items available, please check the Wednesday evening newsletter for the updated produce list). 

Be sure to include your account name--which is your last name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food.

Kitchen Kulture

Pumpkin Risotto: $11. A hearty side dish with a little sweetness from the winter squash and dried fruit.
Moroccan Lentil Stew: $11.

Vegetable Green Curry: $11. This Thai Green Curry is delicious over rice, pasta, or perhaps the coconut grits below.
Sundried Tomato Grits: $11. We're excited to try this new variety--we were confused about whether this is supposed to be smoked, or sundried tomatoes, and we won't know until they deliver tomorrow, so let us know if you don't want it if it's smoked instead of sundried.

Coconut Grits: $10. Creamy coconut milk and grits? Yes, please!  I mixed this with Saag Paneer, for a win.
Cheddar Grits: $11. They're cheesy delish and the perfect base for a little grilled meat or fish. Greens on the side, please.

Garlic Scape Pesto: $7.50. This stuff is amazing as a spread on your sandwich, a pesto for your pasta, on crackers with chevre or slathered over fresh crusty bread.
Strawberry Tamarind Dressing: $5.50/8oz. This sweet and tangy dressing works well as a sauce for vegetables (like zucchini) and roasted meats, as well as on your salad.


Some of the produce is limited, so please leave a second choice when you order, or don't plan to make even trades.

*Yoder Blueberries: $5.50/pt. Blueberries are winding down and we have a limited number of extras for sale.
*Berger Bluff Blackberries: $5.50/pt.

Jacob's or Centennial Peaches: $3.50/share. The number per share varies per size.

Nolte or Dry Dock Green Beans: $2.75/.75lb.
St. Isidore Carrots: $3.50. Sweet and tender and AHmazing--you'll never get a carrot like this at the grocery store.

Celtuce: $2./stalk.  Use in place of celery in chicken salad, or in a salad or on the veggie platter or stir fry. Tastes like peanuts!

EarthDance Kale: $4/bu.
Biver or EarthDance Swiss Chard: $4.

Biver Sungold Tomatoes: $4/pt. I ordered wrong (never trust the voice texting on your phone) but I've requested some from Ivan. Let's hope he gets my message and comes through!These beloved sweet, gold nuggets represent one of the best things about seasonal eating--the anticipation and the reward for waiting.
Ivan's Sungold/Red Cherry Mix: $4/pt.

Heirloom Tomatoes: $3.50/lb. I didn't really order extra but I think we'll have a few shares to sell.
San Marzanos: $1.50/lb. What? Really, this is an amazing deal and they are aren't even seconds. $1.50/lb. We have a 25 pound box. If the first person who orders requests the full box, we may just say we're sold out! Otherwise, we'll divvy among all who order.

Nolte Cucumbers: $1.50/ea.

Sweet Corn: $2.40/6 ears. It's now officially summer and barbecue season. Man that came up fast this year, but I am so ready for my favorite salad (see below).
Last Week's Corn: Half Price--$1.30/6 ears. This corn is so delicious, and if you are cooking it, you won't know the difference! This is your opportunity to shuck out your winter corn--you won't be sorry.

Biver Tomatillos: $3/.75lb. 
Zucchini and Yellow Squash: $3.00/share. One of each.

Yay, eggplant and peppers!
Nolte Millionaire Eggplant: $1.50/ea. These dark, deep purple beauties are long and thin, like the typical Asian variety.
Nolte Bell Peppers: Both are sweet peppers. One of each for $1.75.

Nolte or Berger Bluff Beets: $2.75/lb. Summer is time for pickling--beets, cukes, carrots, how about onions and garlic? When life gives you a lemon, beet it into a pickle.

Lee Garlic Scapes: $1.85/.3lb. These are delicious as a side dish, cut into 1-inch pieces and sauteed in a little olive oil (no need to add garlic!). Chop and use as you would green onions and garlic, and don't miss the garlic scape pesto recipe below!
Lee Garlic: $1.50-2.00/hd. Sizes vary. This is mostly-cured garlic--no longer needs refrigeration.

EarthDance Bunched Scallions: $2.75/bu. They trim them just above the root so they will reproduce and we can have green onions throughout the summer. Cool!
Girod Red Potatoes: $3.00/2lb.

Whole eggplant roasted under the broiler makes for a super smooth texture in a richly-flavored puree. Squeeze in fresh garlic, add salt and pepper, a little lemon juice and tahini for babaganoush. Add garlic, a little chevre and fresh basil for a nice sauce for pasta or rice.
