Welcome to Week 14!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, EVEN-week half-share and Delivered share members tomorrow and Thursday.

* As we noted last week, we lost a freezer over the weekend, along with about $1200 in meats and fish, and the new compressor is going to cost over $2,000. A couple of members asked if we were going to ask for help. In general, we aren't very good at that, but in all honesty, we really could use a little help to keep us from having to take out (or pay back) a loan. If anyone would like to add a couple of dollars to your invoice, we would happily and graciously accept.

Trades and Additional Purchases

Please read the rules of trading and how we like to receive your trades and orders on the Trades and Orders page of our website (note you must be logged in to access this page).

Place orders by noon* to orders@fairshares.org -- you can just reply to this email.
*Delivered-share members: please email by noon Wednesday OR wait until after you've received the Wednesday evening newsletter and order by 9:30a.m. Thursday. (Because we may no longer have certain items available, please check the Wednesday evening newsletter for the updated produce list).

Be sure to include your account name--which is your last name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food.

Mr. Meowski's Sourdough
Available frozen this week: $5/loaf.

Kitchen Kulture

Pumpkin Risotto: $11. A hearty side dish with a little sweetness from the winter squash and dried fruit.
Moroccan Lentil Stew: $11.

Vegetable Green Curry: $11. This Thai Green Curry is delicious over rice, pasta, or perhaps the coconut grits below.
Sundried Tomato Grits: $11. We're excited to try this new variety--we were confused about whether this is supposed to be smoked, or sundried tomatoes, and we won't know until they deliver tomorrow, so let us know if you don't want it if it's smoked instead of sundried.

Coconut Grits: $10. Creamy coconut milk and grits? Yes, please!  I mixed this with Saag Paneer, for a win.
Cheddar Grits: $11. They're cheesy delish and the perfect base for a little grilled meat or fish. Greens on the side, please.

Garlic Scape Pesto: $7.50. This stuff is amazing as a spread on your sandwich, a pesto for your pasta, on crackers with chevre or slathered over fresh crusty bread.
Cauliflower Hummus: $9. This is a great way to get more veggies into your day--it tastes like hummus (the kids will never know -- unless they can read, so hide the evidence).
Strawberry Tamarind Dressing: $5.50/8oz. This sweet and tangy dressing works well as a sauce for vegetables (like zucchini) and roasted meats, as well as on your salad.

PRODUCE

Some of the produce is limited, so please leave a second choice when you order, or don't plan to make even trades.

Mast Blueberries: $5.50/pt. Blueberries are winding down already, boo hoo! We ordered in a number of extras to have available for sale.
Jacob's Orchard Blackberries: $5.50/pt.

Jacob's Orchard Peach Seconds: $24/box. Peach cobbler, peach pie, peach crisp, peaches and cream, peaches and yogurt, peaches and oatmeal, peach jam, peach butter, peach ice cream. Do you need any more suggestions?

Jacob's or Centennial Peaches: $3.50/share. We aren't sure yet how many per share until we receive them tomorrow and give a count.

Berger Bluff/St. Isidore Carrots: $3.50. Rainbow carrots--Complete with pot-o-gold.

Celtuce: $2./stalk.  Celtuce? What is this, like a cross between celery and lettuce? Ding ding ding! You win! Try this crazy, fun veggie with a peanut-y legume flavor in a stir fry, or slice it thin for the veggie tray and keep your friends guessing (you, like us, can be that wacky friend who always introduces people to wierd, exciting new produce). Read more below.

Biver Kale: $4/13oz.
Biver or EarthDance Swiss Chard: $4.

Biver Sungold Tomatoes: $4/pt. These beloved sweet, gold nuggets represent one of the best things about seasonal eating--the anticipation and the reward for waiting.

Biver Cherry Tomatoes: $3.50/lb. Big, juicy red cherry toms--perfect for slicing in half and creating pretty little appetizers with fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, and perhaps a sliver of hard salame.
Nolte San Marzano Tomatoes: $3.50/lb. These are the famous Italian sauce tomatoes, but they're still good for eating raw--just not super juicy like your typical slicer.

Sweet Corn: $2.40/6 ears. It's now officially summer and barbecue season. Man that came up fast this year, but I am so ready for my favorite salad (see below).
Last Week's Corn: Half Price--$1.30/6 ears. We don't have a ton left, but we don't feel like shucking it out to freeze it ourselves just yet. We can attest to the value of this task, because we just had the last of our pan-fried corn and corn pudding a couple of weeks ago. Mmm.

Biver Tomatillos: $3/.75lb.
Zucchini and Yellow Squash: $3.00/share. One of each.

Nolte Purple Kohlrabi: $2.75/2 large bulbs. These are a pretty purple skin with creamy white flesh that are a crisp and crunchy addition to your veggie platter as well as your salad.
Double/Nolte Star Beets: $2.75/lb. Yay, beets!

Lee Garlic Scapes: $1.85/.3lb. These are delicious as a side dish, cut into 1-inch pieces and sauteed in a little olive oil (no need to add garlic!). Chop and use as you would green onions and garlic, and don't miss the garlic scape pesto recipe below!
Lee Garlic: $1.50-2.00/hd. Sizes vary. This is mostly-cured garlic--no longer needs refrigeration.

EarthDance Bunched Scallions: $2.75/bu. They trim them just above the root so they will reproduce and we can have green onions throughout the summer. Cool!
Girod Red Potatoes: $3.00/2lb.

Ozark Forest Mushrooms: $7.00.  Oyster and Shiitake Mix.

I have made this so many times I hardly need the recipe anymore. Perfect with roast meat, especially pork. Also good cold or room temperature the next day.Read more
The name of the recipe sort of says it all. You can use equal proportions, or more or less of any depending on your tastes, or what you have available. This salad is so fresh it deserves a slap on the face. It also makes a delicious salsa with the addition of hot peppers, and we have jalapenos!Read more
This recipe has a pretty laid back approach, as cooking should. Serve with a good lager or a margarita.Read more
Fresh tomatillos have a slight citrusy flavor that makes a wonderful salsa that goes well with chicken, pork, fish, eggs, and grilled veggies. Or eat as is with chips...Read more
The long thin ribbons created by using a vegetable peeler give a nice texture and exciting twist to the squash, which after many weeks in the shares will be a necessary distraction. Maybe we'll post this recipe again later, but put this idea in the back of your brain, just in case. Of course, if you try it now, it will likely become part of your regular squash routine.Read more
