Welcome to Week 45!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, ODD-week half-share and Delivered-share members this week.

We are officially in the count down to the end of Fair Shares Season 10! After this week, we have THREE weeks remaining before our March break.
ODD-week Half-share members: this is your second to last pickup of the season. After Feb. 21/22, your next pickup will be April 4/5.

Everyone may want to start thinking about what you will need to stock up on for the weeks off. We do intend to have a shopping day at the end of March, so you can pick up your Easter ham and stock up on goodies for the holidays. We'll make it a happy hour so we can share a drink and a nibble.

Introducing Owen Augustus Warner

Born January 30th in Oxford England, 9lb. 5oz.
All are well and Fiona is excited to be a big sister. Jamie can't wait to go to England and meet her new grandbaby in March. Great aunts Lindy and Sara are pretty thrilled too!

New Kounter Kulture Item!
Berbere Lentil Dip (frozen): $6 - Berbere is an Ethiopian spice blend that has chili powder and paprika along with a host of other sweet/savory notes. This lentil dip is creamy and flavorful and would make a lovely spread on a roll-up in place of hummus. We had to try it, in the name of science, of course, and we are sold. Another win from our friends at Kitchen Kulture!

We may also be getting squash soup, but I don't know if it's coming Wednesday or Thursday, or what the price will be, so I'm just putting this here to tease you.

Produce for Sale - we have more of the same produce available (leeks, golden beets, watermelon and purple daikon--aka purple heart--radishes, turnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, plus lettuce and kale. Check the store, but please note: Acorn Squash and Spaghetti Squash have not yet arrived, so we will substitute the next size up or down if the size you choose in the store is not available.

Trades and Orders

Please login to your Fair Shares account in Farmigo to make trades and order extras. The tradable items in your share are listed in your cart. You can delete the items you don't want and add in other items from the store.
 - Members who pickup at Fair Shares UCity and Kirkwood, the online store is open only until noon on the day of your pickup, but if you don't make it into your account before then, you are still welcome to make trades at your pickup site.
 - Delivered Share members must order online by 9:30 on Thursday morning.
 - Now is the time to fill your larder with all the staples you'll need for our upcoming break--which includes Easter and (the start of) Passover. Feel free to customize your share to include what you and your family like.

We have a few half, boneless hams from Todd Geisert available in the store. $8/lb. Maybe 5lb. to 7lb. If you want to purchase now, we will put your name on it and store it for you for Easter (we'll be having a shopping day happy hour toward the end of March when you can pick it up.)

We request Thursday pickup groups wait until after Wednesday pickups are over before ordering.
If you need to place your order on Tuesday or Wednesday, please note that we will not get to it until Thursday, and Wednesday on-premise sales may make the numbers in the store inventory moot. In the event that we are out of any items you ordered, we will either email, send substitutes or omit the item (depending on how much time we have). If there's something you want that isn't in the store, feel free to email because we just may have it. Any questions, email orders@fairshares.org.

If you don't live in Soulard, you may not even be aware that it's Mardi Gras season. Having lived in the neighborhood for 26+ years, I can only say Lucky you. But we will celebrate in great taste with a big pot of semi-traditional Beans and Rice. Laissez le bon temps rouler!Read more
We have current members who have been with us from the beginning, and many more who have joined in along the way. Some of us are in it for the long haul. We know that WHY we are part of the local food movement means even more to us than WHAT the program offers. We are more interested in the principles and values of supporting our local economy and connecting with our food and its sources than we are with simply satisfying our need for convenience.Read more

Okay, confession time. The photo here illustrates why I am not, and will never be, a food blogger--not even a bad one. What is it about that one photo, you ask? Here's a hint:Read more
Beautiful, showy radishes command attention on an appetizer plate or your salad. Watermelon radishes are large with green to white skin and a dazzling fuscia-red flesh. They are sweet and mild in flavor and entirely approachable. Purple daikons have a starburst of spectacular purple "tie-dye" inside. Surprise!Read more
