Welcome to Week 32!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, EVEN-week half-share and Delivered-share members this week.

Thanksgiving is just TWO weeks away, so Let's Talk Turkey!

If you would like to purchase a fresh, free-range, pastured, hormone and anti-biotic free turkey for Thanksgiving this year, please see the details below.

If you are interested in Companion dinner rolls, they come in white or whole wheat, 2 dozen per bag for $. We'll need to know before noon on Friday the 17th.

Thanksgiving Week Schedule--all Fair Shares Mothership pickups will be Monday or Tuesday, (November 20th or 21st--your choice), and UCity and Kirkwood pickups will be on Tuesday the 21st. Delivered share members will receive a double share the week before Thanksgiving. I think this bears repeating, so...

Holiday Decor or Pie Filling?
Along with the usual winter squashes, we have large and mini decorative pumpkins available in the store and at the Mothership--perfect for your porch and holiday decorating. Large pumpkins (which look suspiciously like jack-o-lantern pumpkins) $6.00 ea. Mini pumpkins $.50 ea. You can use the large pumkins for pies, but you will want to drain the flesh in a sieve for a bit (that's what makes pie pumpkins preferred for pies--the flesh tends to be a bit drier). Butternut squash also a common substitute for pumpkin in pie making.

Birdhouse Gourds: $7.00. These super-cool-looking green gourds will turn brown/tan and dry out so that you can saw a hole in it and make a birdhouse. These are by far the best looking birdhouse gourds we've ever seen--and as an added bonus, they will make a great holiday decoration while you wait for it to dry!

THURSDAY PICKUP MEMBERS*: please wait until Wednesday evening to place your orders.
We only have time to fill the Wednesday pickup orders on Wednesday. Please note that we will not have time to inventory and update the store until after Wednesday pickups are over. Therefore any items ordered before 8p.m. may not be available by the time we are able to gather your orders on Thursday.

Because keeping the store inventory accurate is challenging with our schedule, we may overestimate availability so that it doesn't falsely show that we are out. Please understand that we may send a choice, or notify you by email that we need you to give us a second choice.

*Delivered-share members: please order by 9:30a.m. Thursday.

If you want to browse the store, but find it closed, you can log out of your account and just look around without ordering at this link: https://csa.farmigo.com/store/fairsharesccsa.

You are not required to make your trades and additional purchases ahead of your pickup, and you can always adjust or add on when you come in. If you would like to place your order through Farmigo, the tradable items in your share are listed in your Cart, as if you are purchasing the items, and you can delete/trade them in and select other items from the store. We still require you to spend the value of your trade and the credits will not carry over from week to week.

If you email your order, be sure to include your account name--which is your last name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food.

Fall For Sunchokes

These roots of a sunflower variety, also known as Jeruselem Artichoke, look a lot like ginger root. There are different schools of thought on the origin of the name Jeruselem artichoke, which is not from Jeruselem. I believe the one that says someone misunderstood the Italian word "girasole" which means sunflower. The sunchoke is as versatile as the potato, which is a very close friend. They both enjoy long, romantic roasts in a hot oven, swimming in a pot of boiling water and frolicking about in a pan of olive oil. The sunchoke is also edible raw. Yes, that's right,... Read more
Beautiful, showy radishes command attention on an appetizer plate or your salad. Watermelon radishes are large with green to white skin and a dazzling fuscia-red flesh. They are sweet and mild in flavor and entirely approachable. Purple daikons have a starburst of spectacular purple "tie-dye" inside. Surprise!Read more
I was obsessed with this recipe a number of years ago when Arianna first adapted it from Smitten Kitchen. The original recipe called for celery, but since we don't have celery locally, she substituted Japanese Turnips. It was delicious and I resurrect it every year.Read more
Use celery root in similar preparations as potatoes--in soups, root veggie roasts, pan-fried, or boiled and mashed, as in this recipe. If the stalks are attached, freeze them in a zip-lock (along with the cleaned peels) to add to stocks.Read more
This photo is from the stunningly-beautiful, creativity-inspring cookbook Jeruselem, by Sami Tamimi and Yotam Ottolenghi, which I highly recommend you race out and buy right now. You can be inspired and let it lead you on your own path.Read more
I got this recipe from Cooking Light. It was sooo good and the tomato jam is seriously a winner if you are looking for new ideas to get through all those tomatoes.Read more
