Welcome to Week 21!

We look forward to seeing all full-share, mini-share, ODD-week half-share and Delivered share members tomorrow and Thursday.

We encourage everyone to wait until you receive the newsletter before ordering and making trades. I will still be adding items in the store after sending the newsletter here shortly. Also, sorry the newsletter is not as charming, fresh and witty as usual. There is only so much time in the day (and night) right now...plus, the eclipse!

Please login to your new Member Account to make trades and place orders. If you have not already logged in to the system per the email last week and set up your payment info, please do so before you even attempt to make your trades. If your account credit is below $75 (or if it's a ngative), we will require payment before you get your share. The number listed as your balance is your prepaid credit available. The amount listed next to it as your available credit is the total of your tradable items, which are listed in your cart. Any items you delete from your cart (trade) will give you that credit to spend--remember that trades don't carry over and you have to spend the value of your trade. Really, nothing is different from before, it's just a new way to track it, so jump in and try out the new shopping cart!

For those of you who haven't yet logged into your account, note that you will need to select a new payment plan and that they are no longer tied to the calendar, nor do they reflect a certain number of shares because we now have one set of plans for all the types of shares and are working on a pre-paid credit system. You will need to click the Recurring Payments tab and select a payment amount that covers at least all of your shares for one month (Full Share members need to select at least $300; we offer bonuses for the thre higher payment amounts, and if you can afford to pay more in advance, we could really use the help)

We are learning a lot about how the new system will work and are discovering ways to simplify our system and be more efficient. We want everyone to try to use the store in your new account, but we don't yet have all items in there and there may be some items that are available, but haven't yet been added. Take a look at the other shares below--we'll be adding extra produce available in the store if/when we have time, but if you see something you like that isn't in the store, go ahead and email us.

*Thanks to our amazing new member volunteers, Ann Posega, Cabrini King, Emily Levin, Kevin Linden and Steve Neville, and Wednesday pickup volunteers Kelly and Carrie. This is not even including our "regular" volunteers who have committed their every Wednesday and Thursday to Fair Shares--some for all 10 years!. We love our volunteers and couldn't do it without you all (seriously, we can barely do it with you right now!).

We could really use help this week as we try out the new trades and order system and answer the 800 questions everyone no-doubt has about the new member setup. If you have a large credit on your account, don't worry if you are having trouble getting your payment info set up, we have a little time to help you figure it out once the dust settles.

Trades and Additional Purchases

We are now attempting to use the online store in the new Farmigo system, but it's not as complete as we'd like, and is a work in progress. You can still email if you're having trouble, but we do hope to get everyone using the store Please read the information below before you login to your your account per the instructions in last Tuesday's email (login with your email and password farmfresh for the first time).

Your weekly share is still listed below and on the website. The tradable items in your share are listed in the Store when you click on your Cart. It presents it as if you are purchasing the items, and you can delete/trade them in and select other items from the store. We still require you to spend the value of your trade and the credits will not carry over from week to week. Do your best and we'll go from there.

*Delivered-share members: please order by noon Wednesday OR wait until after you've received the Wednesday evening newsletter and order by 9:30a.m. Thursday. (Because we may no longer have certain items available, please check the Store on Wednesday after the newsletter is sent for the updated produce list).

If you email, be sure to include your account name--which is your last name and pickup group, so we know where to send the food.

PRODUCE

We haven't been able to update all the numbers in the online store, but want you to know that the majority of the food items you buy at the grocery store are probably available through Fair Shares (we know this because you leave your Trader Joe's and Schnuck's receipts in your bags, ha!). Send us an email if you want to come in on another day to get a few extras. Did you check the new online store from your Farmigo account? We are still trying to get everything in, but if there's something you want that isn't listed, reply to this email.

Just a couple things in case you get trigger happy before I can add them to the store:

Concord Grapes: $2/lb.
Last Week's Corn: $2.50/dozen (hello corn pudding in the winter!) Throw it on the grill for stree corn. OMG
Okra: $2.50/9oz.

Anyone who offered to help with computer time at home, please remind me (Sara)-- I have tasks!

Did you read the email from last Tuesday? Did you login and update your account info and enter a payment plan? PLEASE READ THIS NOW. I'M NOT YELLING, I'm begging...Read more

How To Eat Figs

Fresh, ripe figs are a delicacy that not many people get the chance to enjoy. Because of this, a bit of information may be helpful to those of you who haven't experienced a fresh fig. Unlike the dried version, which will live on indefinitely in the cupboard, fresh figs are highly perishable and must be refrigerated, and handled carefully. They are picked ripe, which makes them sweet and flavorful, but also very delicate, and they need to be eaten right away. figbliss.jpg Figs do mold quickly, but many people mistake the blue, waxy-looking substance that forms along the bottom or... How To Eat Grapes With Seeds

Unless you are just juicing them or cooking them down and straining out the seeds, eating grapes with seeds can be a challenge if you haven't perfected the art. Of course, you can add them to your granola and just pretend they are part of the cereal, like grape nuts (which they are, actually). I find it most satisfying to eat a handful all at once, and these grapes are so much more flavorful than any seedless variety. Here's how to do it. Think of the grape as a piece of hard candy. You can suck on a piece of... Read more
