Welcome to Fair Shares Season 19 Wk14

We'll see all Full Share, Mini Share, and EVEN-week Half Share members this week.
Note the ODD and EVEN half shares correspond to the odd- or even-numbered weeks of our season.

LOGIN HERE to make trades.
• Select your pickup time and ADD it in your cart so we can be more efficient in our organizing and distributing shares.
• After saving your trades, if you don't receive a confirmation email, your order didn't go through.
• You may update your cart as many times as you like. Only your final cart contents will show on our report. • Your standard share items will be packed for you if you do not log in to your cart.

PICKUP DAY AND LOCATION
You can easily switch the day or location, temporarily or permanently by reply to this email before 10a.m. Wednesday. We must change it in our system before we run reports and start pulling and packing shares. Note that selecting a pickup time at a different location will not change your pickup in our system; you must request that so we can change it on our end.

Pro Tip: You can browse the store when it's "closed" by logging out of your account, but keep in mind that we update the store inventory on Tuesdays just before sending out the newsletter.

SHARE HOLDS
Share holds need to be in place by EARLY Monday morning
so we can avoid ordering produce for your share. This is critical in the high-produce season and has lead to the policy of charging the value of the produce in your share for late holds, since we aren't a store with options for selling the items later.

KIRKWOOD AND UCITY PICKUP TIMES
Until our numbers rise and we need longer windows to distribute the shares, we've shortened the hours:
UCity pickup is 4:15 - 5:30.
Kirkwood pickup is 1:00 - 2:00.
If you miss your pickup window, your shares will be returned to the Mothership within about a half hour of the pickup time, and the hours there go until 7:00p.m.

Local Food = Safe Food

When Fair Shares began in 2008, we got a write-up in the local Post-Dispatch newspaper. The article was on the front page, promoting the benefits of knowing your food sources, just below a different story about E. coli infections from large-scale beef farms that were plaguing consumers. We couldn’t have paid for better advertising encouraging the support of small, local farms.

When COVID hit in 2020, our membership doubled as people sought a safer option for sourcing food in an unsure environment. Members drifted away as vaccines became effective and protocols loosened, but we never changed our stance on the matter.

Here we are again today, seeing the dangers of supporting the industrial food system. The benefits of Fair Shares are many—keeping your dollars in the local economy, helping farmers and producers in our community, and enjoying food that is more nutritious, delicious, and--maybe most importantly--safe from the large-scale infections that the industrial agriculture system prone to. In case anyone was unsure, here's your reminder that you’ve made the right decision to be part of Fair Shares. Let your friends and loved ones know there’s room for them in our community!

Get help from seasoned members! Ask questions about those oddball produce items you would never buy because you don't know what to do with them. Then you can show off your skills and share your own food inspirations. https://www.facebook.com/groups/49485152740

We would also love for you to help by sharing our (or your own!) posts on social media. Recommendations work! Review us on Google and at LocalHarvest.org

You're helping us grow!

We're getting new trials and new members each week and would like to thank everyone who is spreading the word, and bringing our flyers to work, school and the gym. Every recommendation helps. Let us know if you need flyers!

Although we allow members to put their share on hold, we'd like to remind you that offering your share as thanks or payment to house- and pet-sitters is a wonderful way to help introduce local eating to friends and family. We also offer gift certificates for giving the gift of food for birthdays, anniversaries, wedding gifts and any other occasion.

Notes on Trades and Orders

If you have questions or an issue to resolve, please email info@fairshares.org. Do not reply to the order confirmation emails that send to orders@fairshares.org account--WE DO NOT CHECK THAT MAILBOX BEFORE PICKUPS, so if you want a reply, use info@fairshares.org, which goes to both Jamie and Sara, and one of us will see it.

The share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart but you are welcome to buy extra. Any amount over the tradeable value will show as Extra Credit and you will be charged additional plus tax on that amount.

Here's a video demo on how to make trades. Note that Farmigo has updated their system to allow you to click the items in your cart that have variations for you to select. Here's the link to LOGIN.

Please check the descriptions of items!

Some things are sold by the pound (like cuts of meat, indicated by /lb. in the item name) so the actual price will be different from what's listed in the store. If what's in your bag is not what you were expecting, give it back. If you're at the Mothership, you may be able to choose something else. This is particularly important on items like bulk chicken breasts, where the item price shows the price per pound, but the package weight may be five pounds.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
We helped a farmer by offering to move some kohlrabi before we saw that it was not going to win any beauty contests. This is our way of providing Community Support in our CSA. Plus, learning how to step up and peel a vegetable to reveal its perfectly good interior is a skill your grandma (or great grandma) would have taught you to avoid food waste. Thanks for helping us help our farmers!
