Welcome to Fair Shares Season 19 Wk1

It's hard to believe we're continuing into our NINETEENTH year! We are so thankful to all of our members, both old and new, and we look forward to feeding you all for a new season. We have over a hundred members who have been part of our Fair Shares family for 10 years or longer, and nearly half of those have been in since our first three seasons when we had a waiting list.

We're especially grateful to our fabulous volunteer members who make this possible. It takes a village, and our Fair Shares Community is the most loyal and devoted group. ❤️🥰
We could use a few strong backs in UCity to help with unloading and setting up the heavy coolers. If anyone would like to arrive a bit early for pickups, we would be most grateful.

We'll see all Full Share, Mini Share, and ODD-week Half Share members this week.
(Note the ODD and EVEN half shares correspond to the odd- or even-numbered weeks of our season.) You are signed up for the following subscription (please let us know if that is not your intention):

Your assigned pickup day is [Delivery Day], but if you ever need to switch the day or location, reply to this email before 10a.m. Wednesday. We can change it easily in our system, but need to do so before we run reports and start pulling and packing shares.

NOTE TO FSC MEMBERS: since our numbers are down considerably at the start of this season, we consolidated all the FSC members into the FSA (Wednesday) / FSD Thursday) group. This helps us in our ordering and distributing. When our membership grows, we'll reinstate the FSC group. Former FSC members will now check the FSA/FSD clipboard for the food list below. Thanks!

LOGIN HERE to make trades.
• Select your pickup time and ADD it in your cart so we can be more efficient in our organizing and distributing shares.
• If you don't receive a confirmation email, your order didn't go through.
• You may update your cart as many times as you like. Only your final cart contents will show on our report. • Your standard share items will be packed for you if you do not log in to your cart.

Pro Tip: You can browse the store when it's "closed" by logging out of your account, but keep in mind that we update the store inventory on Tuesdays just before sending out the newsletter.

Share Price Increase vs. Shrinkage

As mentioned in the previous email, we're sorry to report that there will be a price increase beginning this week for Season 19. We are seeing rises in much of the food we include. From a filling-the-shares perspective, this presents a tricky situation. We are here to help our farmers and small producers stay in business, and shrinking the shares in order to stay in our weekly budget is not our first choice option.

We've all seen how items in the grocery stores change packaging regularly, and if you take a look, you'll notice that half gallon milk is now only 53 oz. instead of 64 oz. Or that 12 oz. beer is now only 11 oz. Rather than trying to be deceptive and just shrink the volume without telling you, we've increased the share prices by $5. This will be reflected in the value of food you receive in the shares, which will allow us to support our farmers without shrinking the amount we purchase from them.
There's a lot of uncertainty in the world right now, and we want to make sure our source of happy, healthy food continues. We appreciate those of you who are choosing Fair Shares and our suppliers. One thing we've remained consistent about all these years is voting with your dollar. Supporting small and local is part of it. Sometimes it's hard to know how to vote with your dollar, and we learned about an app called Goods Unite Us that has a list of companies and products, with a breakdown of who they support with their donations, so you can be informed, insomuch as we can really know.

Biver Farms Organic Potted Plants For PRE-Order

We will again be taking pre-orders for potted herbs and bedding plants, with vegetable plants beginning Week 3. We will not offer plants until the appropriate planting time, and available plants will be listed in the store.

For those new to our system, we take pre-orders through the store, then order from Biver for delivery the following week. So your pre-order plants will be available at pickup the following week (or two weeks for half shares).

Details to come.

Tip: CSA Eating

Hey new members, there is a learning curve to eating locally and seasonally, so give yourself and your family the time to figure it out. It's worth learning because it can save you time and money, make you a more creative cook, and teach you to appreciate your food more … Read more

Rebuilding Our Inventory

Because we were expecting to close our doors at the end of last season, we sold most of our inventory. With the new management learning the ropes and easing into the new season, e will be rebuilding our stock in the coming weeks, so won't have everything available. If you're not finding what you were hoping to, check back later, or let us know and we'll put it on our list for sooner rather than later.
Happy Milk from Ozark Mountain Creamery

Don't make a special trip to the grocery store; pick up your milk when you get your food from Fair Shares!

You can set up a standing weekly or bi-weekly order so that we will be sure to have your milk for you (you may cancel at anytime). Feel free to order from the online store, or place a one-time order to see how you like it... Read more

Mess o’ Greens Recipe
This recipe calls for collards, but any of your cooking greens will be fabulous like this. Also note that we suggest rolling the leaves together and slicing them into 1/2-inch strips before cooking to avoid the mess and hassle later.

Notes on Trades and Orders

If you have questions or an issue to resolve, please email info@fairshares.org. Do not reply to the order confirmation emails that send to orders@fairshares.org account--WE DO NOT CHECK THAT MAILBOX BEFORE PICKUPS, so if you want a reply, use info@fairshares.org, which goes to both Jamie and Sara, and one of us will see it.

The share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart but you are welcome to buy extra. Any amount over the tradeable value will show as Extra Credit and you will be charged additional plus tax on that amount.

Here's a video demo on how to make trades. Note that Farmigo has updated their system to allow you to click the items in your cart that have variations for you to select. Here's the link to LOGIN.

Please check the descriptions of items!

Some things are sold by the pound (like cuts of meat, indicated by /lb. in the item name) so the actual price will be different from what's listed in the store. If what's in your bag is not what you were expecting, give it back. If you're at the Mothership, you may be able to choose something else. This is particularly important on items like bulk chicken breasts, where the item price shows the price per pound, but the package weight may be five pounds.
