Farewell to Fair Shares Season 18 Wk48

This is the FINAL week of Fair Shares Season 18

We hope the potential buyers we are speaking with will come through, but please help us out by spending down the credits on your account. We have farmers and staff to pay and will have a shopping day on March 11th for those who would like to stock up.

2-25-2026 Update on Fair Shares

We are meeting with some different folks to work out a way for Fair Shares to continue on, but have no firm resolutions yet. There will need to be new management and staff, and there is a lot to work out, but we will keep you apprised with any news via emails.

Accounts are set to pay as you go, so everyone will spend down the credit on their account and be charged for the purchase amount when the credit is used up. If we have to close, and you have a large credit remaining on your account, we will reimburse you once we sell off the inventory and equipment. If your credit is fairly small, it would be a huge help to us if you could purchase extras to use it up and help us deplete our inventory.

We'll have a shopping day at the Mothership on Wednesday, March 11th. Details to come.

Thanks to our members, employees, volunteers and producers

We are feeling the gamut of emotions as we prepare to end our 18-year run of Fair Shares. We have devoted so much time, energy, and brainwork into transforming our ideas into a thriving business. We moved through the full array of rearing this baby from a fussy infant to a temperamental toddler, to a precocious grade schooler, through prepubescence into a blossoming teenager and, finally, a wise and capable adult. While looking through photos to find a few memories to share, we've been amazed at the multiple revisions our humble little garage has undergone as we expanded our membership and product offerings. Fair Shares has supported hundreds of farmers and small producers while providing great food to thousands of families over the years. We could talk about numbers and stats, but what really matters is the people.

From the very beginning, it was the members...members who stepped up to volunteer (our most loyal are still with us 18 years later!); members who put up with our myriad mistakes as we developed procedures and refined and refined and refined them; members who struggled with us to learn a new system when we moved everyone to an online account program in 2017; and again when COVID turned everything upside down and demanded a complete revision of our protocols. Our program is highly specialized and super complex. We taught farmers how to grow for us; we taught volunteers and employees how to weigh, count, organize and distribute for us; we taught members how to shop and eat from us. Who knew that there could be such a learning curve for something as basic as getting your food? This CCSA eating isn't for everyone--convenience is not the first goal of Fair Shares, and those who have stuck with us know that the real goal is good, happy food. This means supporting small, local businesses and farmers, and building community. It is the members who put the community into Community Supported Agriculture, and our community is like family to us.

We did not run Fair Shares with great business acumen. We ran it like we were working with family, because we were. We treat our employees, volunteers and members like family, and because of that, we've developed some very sweet friendships and relationships. Seeing this labor of love come to an end is a bittersweet thing indeed. We are ready to retire, but not seeing you all regularly will be hard (as I, Sara, am already acutely aware). We thank you all, for your support, for your trust, for your friendship, for your community. We are very proud of what we built and we're very proud of you all for stepping up to be part of a movement that matters in the world.

We'd love to hear your stories of what made Fair Shares special for you. Please share a favorite memory, or a story about how you started with Fair Shares in our Facebook group. Your input could help the future of Fair Shares!

We'll post some more pics on Instagram and Facebook over the next few weeks. Please share any photos you have on our Facebook group.

Creamy Mashed Potato Squash

Creamy Mashed Potato Squash
This delicious and creamy squash has a flavor in between russet and sweet potatoes. It’s super easy to make this into a high fiber side dish reminiscent of mashed potatoes.

Enchilada Hotdish
This is a fun way to use up bits and things you have in the fridge. I had a roasted squash, some mushrooms that I forgot about, some greens and black beans in the freezer, and half an onion. I was inspired!
