Welcome to Fair Shares Season 18 Wk9
We'll see all Full Share, Mini Share, and ODD-week Half Share members this week.
(Note the ODD and EVEN half shares correspond to the odd- or even-numbered weeks of our season.)
Your assigned pickup day is [Delivery Day], but if you ever need to switch the day or location, reply to this email before 10a.m. Wednesday.
LOGIN HERE to select your time and ADD it in your cart. If you don't receive a confirmation email, your order didn't go through. You may update your cart as many times as you like. Your share will be packed for you regardless of whether you make changes or select a time. The time just helps us organize and have your bags ready when you arrive.
Pro Tip: You can browse the store when it's "closed" by logging out of your account, but keep in mind that we update the store inventory on Tuesdays just before sending out the newsletter.

SHARE HOLDS NEED TO BE MADE BY 8:00A.M. MONDAY
Now that we're in the produce season, it's time to reiterate our share-hold policy.
Our program has a quick turn around--we figure out our member numbers for each pickup group and put together the share lists (based on produce availablilty) early on Mondays (even if it's a holiday) so we can let the farmers know what produce to harvest and bring to us on Tuesday. Then we take delivery of everything and weigh, bag and sort it all so we can put the correct numbers of what's available into the store and send the newsletter by 4p.m. Tuesday. We order extras on the produce items so everyone can buy or trade for what they like. When we get late share hold requests, it's a lot of shuffling and computer work to add extras into the store (if it's not too late), and it usually means having to give away the extra produce because we don't have a means to sell it. This is why--especially as more produce comes in--we have to charge you for the produce if you put your share on hold late. With over 300 members, even a few late share holds can mean a lot of extra produce.
If you realize too late that you aren't going to be able to get your share, consider asking a friend if they'd like to take it--whether for payment as a gift (it's a great way to pay dog walkers or house sitters!). It also helps us recruit new members. Thanks for your understanding.

Week Nine
New: Beets with tops, Chives, Cilantro, Japanese Turnips, Zucchini
Returning: Green Garlic, Swiss Chard
NOTE: Grab some shoots! We will only be offering these in shares through Week 10. As we get more produce from the ground we'll take microgreens out of the rotation until the Fall.

Order Your Starters for Pickup Next Week
For those new to our system, we take pre-orders through the store, then order from Biver who delivers the following week. These baby plants need a lot of TLC, and we can't order the number of extras necessary to keep them alive and be able to sell everything on site.
If you ordered plants last week, please prioritize collecting them at this week's pickup. We want your plant babies to thrive in your gardens rather than weathering our concrete sideyard!

Wheat Berry Salad

This is another versatile dish that can be a side dish or a main. Change up the ingredients and you have so many possibilities here.

Wagyu Smashburgers
Ok they arenβt really smashed, but I thawed the meat before the storm rolled in and by dinner time our power wasnβt restored. I had to use a flashlight. Thank goodness for a gas stove!

Tip: Go Topless
When you receive root veggies with the greens attached, it's important to separate the tops from the roots.
The greens are edible if they're in good shape--yes, even radish greens--and don't think that just because they are wilted that they are not good. They are just thirsty! Why? Because the roots and the greens are competing for the moisture in the plant. This is why you want to separate them. It will help keep your greens perky and your roots firm. Just cut off the roots below the rubber band or twist tie and store them in a plastic bag--feel free to spritz them or give them a dunk in water before you store them.
If any of the greens you get from us--whether cooking greens or salad greens--are a bit wilty, just soak them in water for a bit and they will revive. We just don't have the high tech set up of the misters that the grocery stores have.
Did you know beet tops are related to Swiss chard and can be used the same way?

Notes on Trades and Orders
If you have questions or an issue to resolve, please email info@fairshares.org. Do not reply to the order confirmation emails that send to orders@fairshares.org account--WE DO NOT CHECK THAT MAILBOX BEFORE PICKUPS, so if you want a reply, use info@fairshares.org, which goes to both Jamie and Sara, and one of us will see it.
The share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart but you are welcome to buy extra. Any amount over the tradeable value will show as Extra Credit and you will be charged additional plus tax on that amount.
Please check the descriptions of items! Some things are sold by the pound (indicated by /lb. in the item name) so the actual price will be different from what's listed in the store. If what's in your bag is not what you were expecting, give it back. If you're at the Mothership, you may be able to choose something else. This is particularly important on items like bulk chicken breasts, where the item price shows the price per pound, but the package weight may be five pounds.
