Important Notes for Members...
Kirkwood Members: Our porch host will be away for four Thursdays, 6/1-6/22, but will allow us to use her porch for pre-arranged pickups only. She will not be there to monitor missed pickups, so any shares not picked up at the church that have not been pre-arranged for porch pickup will be returned to the Mothership. Any pre-arranged porch pickups who do not pick up their shares will not get a reminder alert. Please set an extra notice to yourself to make the Kirkwood pickups in a timely manner.
Summer Vacations are here: We have over 40 families on hold this week! Although we are happy to offer the ability to put your shares on hold, we would like to remind everyone that offering your pet and house sitters your Fair Shares pickup makes a great payment, and helps both us and our farmers! Just tell them your pickup name/group, date, location and pickup time window (they don't have to select a specific time). If you wish to share your login info and tell them how to make trades, you are welcome to do so.
Bedding Plants and Strawberries are coming to an end: Keith Biver says he is running low on the bedding plants, so we are making this the final week to order. Harvey Yoder says his strawberries are coming to an end, so this might be the final week we'll have them in the shares. 😢
* Rhubarb is in the store this week, you know what to do...
Ripe and Buggy Produce: We all want organic produce, right? Who wants to eat produce that bugs won't eat? When those bugs are alive, you know it's fresh! All kidding aside, the way to deal with buggy produce is to remove the bugs before storing them in the fridge. Just make up a bath of water with salt or vinegar added and soak until the bugs are floating or sinking to the bottom. Some may need a little extra time, and maybe an extra shake to get them off. Assess which produce will hold and which should be eaten or processed right away--it's all a game of timing with Seasonal eating.
Revive Your Wilting Greens: Wilting greens aren't dead and they aren't compost--if you catch them soon enough. They are just thristy! Give them a nice cool bath of water and allow them a few hours to perk right back up.
Thanks for donating to our New Cooler: since we are down a cooler that we used to stage shares after packing and until pickups, we are taking this opportunity to address the severe shortage of cold storage that we've been experiencing in the high summer heat for the past several years. A number of you have made donations, either through the Donation items in the online store or just contacting us, and are so appreciative of your help!

Know Your Greens!
We are greens heavy these days at the CSA. We wanted to share a few pictures (for identification) and advice. Read more

It's time to think about processing an extra quart or two of strawberries before they're all gone! There's nothing like whipping up a mixed berry smoothie in late summer, just to remember how sweet the Spring was.

Strawberry Cobbler
Normally I will just eat strawberries by themselves, but I accidentally squished these so cobbler it is!

Lettuce Give Thanks
It's lettuce season. This is the time of the year when organizing a combined CSA gets difficult. When everyone who grows lettuce for us has lettuce ready, and we have committed to buying their lettuce, we all get a little tired of salads. Now you may wonder why we would commit to purchasing lettuce from so many farmers, and that's a good question, with a reasonable answer: the weather makes us do it. Read more

Eat Salad, Often
It's officially salad season. That means it's time to start using a bed of lettuce as the base for every meal.

Notes on Trades and Orders
If you have questions or an issue to resolve, please email info@fairshares.org. We get nearly 400 order confirmation emails in the orders@fairshares.org account and WE DO NOT ALWAYS CHECK THEM, so if you want a reply, use info@fairshares.org, which goes to both Jamie and Sara, and one of us will see it.
The share clipboards below will include the fresh produce on your list, but the cart in your Farmigo account lists only the tradable items in your share. You must spend the total credit value in your cart but you are welcome to buy extra.
Please check the descriptions of items! Some things are sold by the pound (indicated by /lb. in the item name) so the actual price will be different from what's listed in the store. If what's in your bag is not what you were expecting, give it back. If you're at the Mothership, you may be able to choose something else. This is particularly important on items like bulk chicken breasts, where the item price shows the price per pound, but the package weight may be five pounds.

As you run out of ideas for how to prepare cooking greens, or you find yourself with more than you can use before your next share, consider blanching and freezing some for lasagnas and soups during the lean seasons.
