The Shares

What does $50 worth of locally, sustainably produced food look like?

Below are lists from different times during our various seasons. As far as explaining how much food you'll get, it's difficult to say how many people it will feed. Do you have two young daughters or two teenaged boys? Do you cook at home most of the time or go out several nights a week? Do you bring your lunch to work?

We can say this:
it is too much for one person, and during the summer, two people have to cook and eat at home a lot, or entertain to get through it all. Many couples share with another couple, so they still can purchase the items they want that we don't offer. Many members find they rarely go to the store anymore.

For most of the meats, we include ground because it is too expensive and difficult to get the quantities we need for special cuts or steaks. You are welcome to trade up for a steak or a roast, we keep a variety on hand and are happy to special order items for our members. Chickens are whole and take up a large percent of the $50 for the week, so the other food in the share will be less on those weeks. During peak harvest seasons, we may go above the $50 per week budget in order to give members more fruits and fresh produce. We track the average over the course of the year, and will make the winter shares a bit smaller to even out the average.
