If I was a pig . . .

If I was a pig . .. I would want to live on Todd Geisert's Farm! Of course, if I just loved to eat local, naturally raised, absolutely delicious pork, I think I might want to live there as well.

My sister bought a tour of Todd's family farm at the Art of Food event and the experience was awesome. Todd & his son took our family on a hay ride around the farm and we got to see pigs being pigs! They basically run around in fields, eat natural feed, squeal, snort and repeat. After chasing down a few of the little ones we got to hold a few as well. They are kind of like bristly puppies.

The farm stand was maybe the highlight though. A sign reads, "Open from Sunrise to Sunset" - and a bounty of fresh vegetables, herbs, fruits is flanked by some porky goodness filled fridge/freezers. There is a coffee can in the middle with a price board in front of it, and a pad & pencil for the traditionalists or a calculator for the mathmatically challenged. You grab it, weigh it, add it, pay it, and make change for it.

This farm runs on the honor system from "piglet to table".
