Member Expectations

What we expect of you

Communications

We communicate with our membership via emails and our website. We expect our members to take the initiative to read the newsletters, or at least skim them to make sure you know of any important information. Then we expect you to share that information with the others who are involved with getting the food. Many members have their children, neighbors, spouses or share partners pick up for them, so notifications by email or at the pick up sites are only effective if this information is being shared. We can add more than one emai, so let us know if someone else needs to be paying attention. With 315 memberships, many of which are shared, for a total of over 400 families, we need you to do your part in staying informed about the happenings of your CSA.

Pickup Policy

Pick-up Policy

With the number of memberships we have, we need you to do everything possible to pick up your share at the scheduled time, or send someone to pick up for you. We set this policy to reduce the number of people who miss their share and expect to drop in and pick it up at another time. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A SERVICE WE WANT TO PROVIDE!

With seven different lists of food from dozens of producers and 350 member pickups to organize over two days each week, it's important that you do all you can to make your pickup at the scheduled time and pickup location. We understand that there are circumstances that come up, and we will do our best to accommodate you, but having to restock the food and gather it again is cumbersome, and it doesn't do the food any favors either.

Our original policy was that if you miss your pickup we donate your share. We understand that circumstances do come up, so we revised the policy to: If we do not hear from you within 24 hours of missing your share, we donate it. We allow one free rescheduled pickup* per membership, followed by an increasing fee system of $5 added for each time you reschedule, up to a total of five times per season, at which point your share is donated. This means that on your second rescheduled pickup, you would be charged $5, on your fifth, you will be charged $20, and on your sixth, you will not be allowed to get your food. If you donate your share or fail to reschedule within 24 hours, we will not bill you for that, and we thank you for the donation.

You must contact us within 24 hours of missing your pickup or your share will be donated.

If you miss your pickup, you must come to the main Fair Shares site (aka the Mothership) to get your food. If you pick up at one of the off-premise sites and miss your pickup time, you may come to Fair Shares up until 7:00p.m. (call us after 7:00, we may say come on in) the day of your pickup without it counting towards the five free passes. If you know you will not be able to make your pickup, please email us before noon that day, or call Sara at 314.852.5743, because we are not in front of the computer after noon on pickup days.

If you will be late for your pick-up, call the number above to see if we will be available to let you come after 7:00.

* Some fresh produce may not hold over until your rescheduled time, or may no longer be available. We'll give you what is available from your missed share.
